Oil pump Disco 3

This is to say many thanks to Disco_Mikey for the supply of the genuine FoMoCo oil pump and cam belt etc. I had fitted a Bearmach pump but had the crankshaft seal pop out after a self inflicted overheat of the engine. Also the plastic cooling housing that sits in the 'vee' had split and was leaking badly. So I replaced the housing and fitted a new seal to the Bearmach. But I was concerned that this may not last, so got the genuine stuff from Mike. I spent all day Saturday(31st.) fitting the new pump, belt, tensioner, etc., and am now more at ease with the set up. Biggest time consuming problem was the pigging starter motor. Amazing how sometimes it goes in and out no problem, and sometimes it takes forever!! Evil or Very Mad The crankshaft seal was in fact still in place on the Bearmach pump, but as some of you have had the seal come out after about 2000k and I was getting up to that mileage, I'm glad that I have now done what is, I hope, a more permanent fix. Whistle

Again, many thanks Mike for supplying proper parts at a competitive price.

No problem at all Bow down

It would seem that EVERY Bearmach pump I have fitted had the seal fall out afterwards Censored
No such issues with the FoMoCo pump, I'm sure you can sleep easy now Thumbs Up

The job is pretty straightforward if you don't fully remove the starter. I swung mine out the way enough to get the locking tool in and out without fully removing the starter.

I have removed the starter as well for another reason and yeah, that really is a Censored to maneuver into that exact position.

Crikey! Exclamation I suppose it's a case of practice makes perfect. If you're doing this particular job frequently then you'll know all the angles. Still, 4.5 is pretty impressive. Bow down

Quickest time I have done a rear belt is 40mins Laughing

As you say if your doing them day to day, the job becomes easy and just flows, 4.5 hours is not rushing, That time was a while ago when I am down with my mate Geoff on a Cambelt week end we have done 5 belt changes and Oil pump casings in a day..

Do you have to drain the oil and coolant if you are replacing oil pump casing and water pump?

Just the coolent needs draining if your changing the water pump, Oil pump casing does not effect the oil level.
