This is to say many thanks to Disco_Mikey for the supply of the genuine FoMoCo oil pump and cam belt etc. I had fitted a Bearmach pump but had the crankshaft seal pop out after a self inflicted overheat of the engine. Also the plastic cooling housing that sits in the 'vee' had split and was leaking badly. So I replaced the housing and fitted a new seal to the Bearmach. But I was concerned that this may not last, so got the genuine stuff from Mike. I spent all day Saturday(31st.) fitting the new pump, belt, tensioner, etc., and am now more at ease with the set up. Biggest time consuming problem was the pigging starter motor. Amazing how sometimes it goes in and out no problem, and sometimes it takes forever!! The crankshaft seal was in fact still in place on the Bearmach pump, but as some of you have had the seal come out after about 2000k and I was getting up to that mileage, I'm glad that I have now done what is, I hope, a more permanent fix.
Again, many thanks Mike for supplying proper parts at a competitive price. 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

No problem at all
It would seem that EVERY Bearmach pump I have fitted had the seal fall out afterwards
No such issues with the FoMoCo pump, I'm sure you can sleep easy now My D3 Build Thread

The job is pretty straightforward if you don't fully remove the starter. I swung mine out the way enough to get the locking tool in and out without fully removing the starter.
I have removed the starter as well for another reason and yeah, that really is a to maneuver into that exact position. 2008 RRS TDV6 - Chawton White/Black/Lined Oak - 20's, h/k, sunroof - 350K KM.

Crikey! I suppose it's a case of practice makes perfect. If you're doing this particular job frequently then you'll know all the angles. Still, 4.5 is pretty impressive. 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Quickest time I have done a rear belt is 40mins
As you say if your doing them day to day, the job becomes easy and just flows, 4.5 hours is not rushing, That time was a while ago when I am down with my mate Geoff on a Cambelt week end we have done 5 belt changes and Oil pump casings in a day..

Do you have to drain the oil and coolant if you are replacing oil pump casing and water pump?

Just the coolent needs draining if your changing the water pump, Oil pump casing does not effect the oil level.

Crikey looks like this is now becoming a national sport... "and now after the long jump comes new to the Olympics the D3 - changing belts and oil pumps" - in lane one Flack... in lane 2 Mikey" Owning a Discovery 3 is like dating a model.. a firm body and shape, wow.. the ride is fantastic > for this your wallet can take a pounding and you worry about being deflated at any time...
