Spent a fair bit on mine since August 2013 (in NPA):
Roof crossbars
Towbar
Allisport intercooler
Silicone turbo hoses
NSF Driveshaft
Gearbox flush
Torque Converter
V8 brakes - front and rear
Front-rear brake pipes
Alternator
Battery
2nd set of (scruffy) wheels
Several full service kits and fluids etc.
Wheel nuts
2nd set of cam-belts (though not actually due yet) complete with oil and water pumps
Rear HVAC pipes
EGR Blanking kit
Rear upper arms
Decat pipe
Nanocom and IID BT
Two front shocks (which haven't been fitted yet)*
Tyres
Tailgate actuator and latch
Various LED bulbs
Driving lamps (mounting brackets to be produced very shortly now)
More small things and probably something I've forgotten
Over 55k's worth of fuel so far
To add to the above, the rear prop is to be renewed soon, and the brake flexi-hoses, plus various bits and bobs still to do. A fair bit of bodywork's been done under insurance too. More mods are/will be on the list inc. some mud tyres. No doubt an AMK compressor will be down the line some time. Would have bought a remap too, but it turns out it's already done.
All adds up to I-hate-to-think-what, but I've only had one oughtright breakdown - CV joint - and it was at the end of my road; must have been in favour with the gods!
( * = I'm trying to save up for Koni FSDs, but more time-sensitive things keep getting in the way. I want to replace the airbags too, so it's much more cost effective to buy the complete struts and re-sell the shocks. )

My last D3 had £4K spent on it in one year. I sold it and bought a BMW. Four weeks later the Beamer turbo failed 1.2k.

I almost feel cheerful after seeing the expenditure and pain you guys incurred.. I thought it was just me having spent £2.5k this year and only done <1000 miles but thats another story.
I hope after fixing and providing preventative maintenance I will see at least a couple of years trouble free motoring.. well that's hoping...
I came to the conclusion that if I had bought a 3 year old D4 I would have lost that in depreciation in the time I have had it.. do limited miles so nearly cheerful.. would I have any other vehicle absolutely not - Owning a Discovery 3 is like dating a model.. a firm body and shape, wow.. the ride is fantastic > for this your wallet can take a pounding and you worry about being deflated at any time...

Just another little thing when I picked the car up yesterday I was told that the car not had the egr valves blanked but in the service history invoices it says EGR blanking kit and fitting plus diagnostics. She was charged £80 plus vat for this Knowing this now could that effect the running of the car and lead to some of the problems I am experiencing such as lumpy tick over and car nearly stalling when gearing down for junctions and setting off from them ? I have now ordered a blanking kit,is there any software type thing to do when you blank them ? Thanks fellas in advance I know I ask a lot of questions sorry By the way car is all sorted now diffs gearbox props etc and its Brilliant
No software changes required on a 05 D3 for blanking - just make sure the butterfly is removed as that will cause some starvation of air.Mark.
