As the next IID group buy is some way off, I'm probably gonna need to buy one from one of the LR specialists. Are the Britpart ones exactly the same thing, or are they older stock that's since been updated? Maybe just a firmware update?

They are exactly the same except for the initial firmware version. Once updated with a PC or Mac, they are identical.http://www.gap-diagnostic.com/

For anyone still looking for one of here in the short term, Island 4x4 have these listed under the part number: TFIIDBT
Price remains as before, at £320 + VAT
However, it would appear LRDirect still have some old Britpart stock, with part number DA6412 (amongst other numbers), for £309.90 + VAT (while stocks last)
Do GAP not release updates for existing units to ensure all have the same functionality or are you implying hardware changes?
If everyone always waited for the next update nothing would ever get bought!
