Is it easy to spot from the top if this mod has already been done - I don't want to order all the parts up to find the mod has already been done and the white smoke is down to another issue.

You need to remove shields, and look at the bottom blank plate. If you can see the blank plate then it hasn't been done

Once the wheel is off its not too bad. The shields are easy they are at the top behind it

Hi there,
Seem to be suffering from the same problem 59 plate
Got a price from the local dealers, does this seem right ?

The parts for the job total £74.16 inc VAT and labour approx. £480 inc VAT

Think I may well be doing this myself

Wow thats some labour cost!

I always thought TSB jobs should be free - as they know its an issue hence the TSB.

Would expect it to be free, but don't think they work that way. I thought it was only 1.2 hours labour looking at the tsb but don't know if that includes starter removal etc etc

It would have to as thats the job. You cant do it without removing so god knows how they can price it. Not got a local Indy you trust with your car?

Indy did mine just before Christmas. During a service on Monday he thought he'd have a wee look at the hoses, I was still around, so he called me to have a look at what came out. Three excellent mechanics then put their heads together to warn of lots of smoke, don't floor it and take it easy as the secondary turbo was on it's way out. I trust them implicitly.

Restricted Performance has been a frequent occurrence and I think I now know why as they had tried everything else.......I think they were trying to be gentle with me. Anyway, I'm a great believer in preventative maintenance so it's booked for next Tuesday. Bu**er! Thumbs Up

Think I will look at doing it myself.

therso: which hoses and what did come out ? (oil I'm guessing) are you also saying you're booked in for turbo replacement ?
Thanks

If you go back to the start of this thread you will see the photo of the orange hose from which the oil came. I asked what is the worst case scenario and was told that the secondary turbo 'could/will' fail eventually going by what had been discovered. I could at some point experience the great white cloud etc., so I'm not the type to wait and see. Fit new turbo please. Body off though, which I'm a little doubtful about having read from some posters that it is not necessary, but I do trust my Indy. Good luck!

Thanks therso.

Just heard back from dealers after querying labour :-

The cost given was an estimate based on 2 hours work at our current labour rates

wow £200 +vat per hour

Need to find a local indy !

Mind you I have 2 dealers near me and the difference in price for a wheel bearing was in the region of 200. cheaper dealer not yet come back re turbo drain

@ridgeback_moor thanks for the pictures and write up which certainly helped.

For others attempting the replacement I just completed this on a RRS 2013 Autobiography however was not as smooth as listed. The issue is my RRS is fitted with the adaptive swaybar (have no idea what it is called) which means there is a set of hydraulic hard and soft lines that run through the area where you would remove the starter from. After a few hours of juggling there was just not enough physical room to remove the starter even though i as able to juggle the lines a bit when the mount points were loosened. If the lines were not there the starter would have come out for sure.

Anyway long story short you can actually do the pipe swap with the starter removed but still sitting loose in there. Takes a bit of juggling however is possible.
