District change of engine note at idle.
Just collected a new wagon. At idle it's as expected. At least for a few minutes.
Once the vehicle has run for a few minutes the engine note deepens - as if a valve in the exhaust has opened.
Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks.

Hi BenB and welcome. I hadn't noticed that, but probably drowned out by my dashboard rattles

Could be the DPF doing a regenerate sequence. It does sound a bit gruff when it does it. How many miles on it?

Yes. Most of the time I can hear it start whilst I am driving, the engine note changes distinctly at low revs. If I stop, the idle is rough. If you are at motorway speeds, I don't notice any difference, but I suspect it regenerates a lot quicker at speed.

You guys need to read up on DPF regeneration.....
It doesn't happen at idle, needs to see steady speed for x minutes etc., etc.Stew,

Yep in no way will the DPF be regenerating at idle.

There is loads going when the vehicle is warming up. The fuelling strategy is different, the injectors are over-providing, the glow plugs are in their continuous afterglow mode, the DPF is warming up, as is the cat and the EGRs will get in on the act too.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
