P0234

Just got back from the worst weekend away with caravan, only went 85 mile and got, Engine System Warning and limp mode 7 times, stop turn off re start and off we go again, did it when the engine was working hardish going up a hill etc, checked turbo lever and that's free, any ideas cant do with this every time we go off, after towing thousands of miles with our Disco 2 and no problems thinking of going back to one.

That's a boost fault code so if you've checked the actuator is free moving I'd guess at a split turbo hose next Thumbs Up

All hoses are new 2 weeks ago. with it saying overboost just hope it's not the turbo itself.

all hoses secured with new clips, why would a leak in a hose or joint give me overboost? map is clean checked that, are we looking at a turbo problem?

If it's an overboost fault, and the actuator is moving freely, then its likely to be a turbo

Just curious, is your D3 remapped in some way?

My fault for misleading the thread Embarassed I recently had a ESF and P023 code which was a boost problem but read with a generic reader so didn't specify if it was over or under boost...

Your P0234 is overboost but what was the code read with?

P0234 is a generic (i.e. not manufacturer specific) turbo fault. It means the same thing on all vehicle brands fitted with a turbo. So it's irrelevant which code reader was used.

I'm curious if the vehicle is remapped as I have seen this fault on another D3 that was remapped. Maybe the remap did not increase the upper boost limit, or increased the boost pressure too much. I suggested removing the remap temporarily to check if that sorts it out but the person concerned hasn't got round to it yet Rolling Eyes

As mentioned by the OP, a split hose will not give an overboost. If anything, it will give an underboost fault as it will be unable to build pressure.

No re-map that I know of, going into Green Oval for Brian to have a look at, it's no good to me like it is, going into limp mode with a big twin wheel caravan on the back, wish I could have me Disco 2 back never faulted.

It's the turbo Sad looks like I am a member of the FTC now, the thing is what to do! new turbo, have a change try another make Kia, Volvo, Merc, Hyundi, VW, SsangYong, it's got to be 4 wheel drive for our big twin wheel caravan and we go on a lot of fields. We went out for a look yesterday to see what was on offer wife would not even get out of Disco to look at the SsangYong, must say the competition is either too small, would not get all our kit in them, cheap and nasty plastic, looked Censored . As wife said they don't catch your eye and you would not look back as you walk away like you all do, stop farting about get a new turbo ordred and get it fitted it is 10 years old now, you've been a hgv/pcv mechanic for 43 years and get my car back on song, don't forget I want to get some holidaying done this year. So that's me told.

OEM Turbo can be had for a smidge over £700 IIRC. Still a sore one, but could be worse

Wise words from your wife. At 10 years it's not doing too bad for turbos, mine had 2 in the first 5 years. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry
