My discovery was supplied by Stratstones and has been serviced by them all the way through. I asked the question with them that if the part failed would they be asking for any contribution from LR? They said they would but due to the age of the vehicle any help would not be great or guaranteed. My feeling was that even if they pay 80% of any cost it still leaves a big bill so may as well have the part changed at my cost now. Would be interested to hear from other forum members what help they have received from LR??? Did consider leaving additional work and if failure happened, the warranty company could deal with it, but the extra cost I got quoted to have all the work incl water pump done, it seemed daft not to get done. (thanks to MOO another forum member who pointed me in direction of Stratstones M.K,) My suggestion is more aimed at people that the unfortunate has happened to and they now have a very big bill to sort out their engine. The documented history of the failure of this part, which should not fail in the way it does (age/mileage etc) and the fact LR have redesigned the part shows there is a design fault. If it were a brake/safety part there would be a recall. If it were to happen to me and LR left me with a significant bill, for the little cost involved, I would consider pursuing a case at the small claims court based on the history of the failures and LR redesign of the offending part. Not trying to cause trouble but just voicing a possible option.....

Order Parts Online at www.advancedfactors.co.uk
The best bet would be go get the entire kit from Steve at Advanced Factors, he can supply the LR oil pump cover and the full bets kit.
I would get the work done by an indy such as Flack or geoff. both of whom do this job frequently.

Brilliant. Thanks for that Boringoldgit and Flack. I know they have had to order up the part so would hope it to be correct but would be just my luck that an old stock item was found somewhere and put on! Many thanks
If you are using Stratstones I would ask for the numbers of the parts to be used, in advance & that they be detailed on your invoice.
I would also ask for the old parts removed as part of the service.

Agree with you NJSS I having known specialists do the job. When I booked her in it was just for the standard 7yr service and my thoughts were that if it had full Main dealer service history and something did happen then less room for not helping out! In the end as mentioned decided that for the additional expense and cost they have quoted me would have it all done anyway whilst with them. For future reference I have not looked but is there an area on the forum with forum specialists and the areas they cover/will work in? Next preventative job want doing is the gearbox megaflush..... Cheers

Well yes because we have had some early failures, but not as many as the 07 to 08 range. The pump casings on the early ones look identical ....
Flack
not if it has been said before, but, speaking in numbers, what you think that would be the total price for pump and labor without changing the distribution (I have made it 2 years ago) but in a dealership?, because my friends Flack or Geoff.and other I left a little far to me... the truth.

A stronger pump was fitted to 08.5MY, so all 09MY SHOULD have the later design of pump already fitted. However, it is probably a case of what was available on the day when fitting
The pump was then superseded again to bring EU3 pumps to the same design as the EU4
Brace yourself to replace the pump beforehand though, just in case My D3 Build Thread

The current pump is listed from 9A510122 so you could assume that every version before this has been modified for a reason.
Mine is just outside this 9A494051
I will take some solace in Mikeys comment though

and the fact my Warranty Direct policy runs till November and 7 year service due January.
Could be a twitchy December if the warranty isn't renewed

How much do the oil pump casings cost?It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
