I bought a Disco a bit back. It has a very loose tow bar but it is a Thule. It looks exactly like the Land Rover version but would it be covered by the recall? I could just wander down to the dealer but for-warned is for-armed.

Tow bar recall
What's the deal with this, is it just for the detachable type? Didn't know what the fault can be and also, what do LR do about it? (I know it can break and the trailer or caravan come off, but didn't know which bit broke!?)
Had my D3 a while now and read about the tow bar recalls in the past, but never really bothered about it too much, as I didnt have a trailer... My father in law now has one, so there's a good chance I'll be using it too, so just wanted to check.
Thanks...

It only affectst the detachable type. Nothing breaks, wear develops in the socket and the towbar can drop out.
The recall involves a dealer visit, they check the wear in the socket and on the towbar. Mine was checked whilst I waited.
If all is well nothing is done and off you go.
They may recommend that you have a fixed towbar fitted and they may also need to cut out the rear crossmember if it's badly worn and weld in a replacement with a new socket.
It wil cost you nothing other than time.
Had mine done earlier in the year, I do occasional towing of heavy trailers. I had to have a new rear crossmember fitted and the fixed towbar. It is a much better option if you tow anything heavy. They had my Disco for three days and gave me a D4 as a courtesy car.Arthur.

The fixed one does locate into the same socket as the detachable one if that's what you mean and has the same key and lock mechanism. It also has the two bracing bars stabilizing and strengthening it.
As far as I am aware there's no recall for the fixed version but a call to your dealer might be worthwhile just to check.Arthur.

Discovery 3 towbar
Am I correct that Landrover are checking discovery 3 towbars for wear?
If they are . my towbar is not genuine so will that affect the check ..

Think it's more a check of the socket than the tow bar.D4 MY15 SE TECH

If you have the genuine removable Land Rover tow hook fitted then you're OK They're looking only at these tow hooks. They're not meant to be left permanently fitted, nor are they intended for heavy loads such as big caravans (which seems to defeat the purpose as far as I can see) but some owners never take theirs off and tow excessive loads.
Many owner have had mishaps with hooks falling off so Land Rover are checking that there has been no deterioration of the cross member and/or the tow hitch socket.
If you have a fixed tow bar you're not affected by the check.
