Odd happenings at LR Dealer.
Car booked in for a service. Garage calls SWMBO and says removable tow bar is stuck on the car. It's not, it's tucked up in its polystyrene home. Call garage, they say that there is excessive play. I say I have never towed anything, it's only used to carry a bike rack. I say do not fit a fixed towbar. Collect car and it has a shiny new fixed towbar and all bits of the removable towball have been 'removed'. Problem, bike rack requires swan neck towball. Solution Landrover send me a shiny new Landrover bike rack. Lighter than my old one. Didn't want a fixed towball but new fixed towball, new bike rack, no future problems with removable towball. Not a bad result. SAAB 9-3 Convertible (bought before they all disappear)
D3 TDV6 HSE 2007 Black with Alpaca interior (gone and much missed)
Uncle Ray Wheel Protector (best accessory ever bought bar none)
SAAB 9-3 Sportwagon (daily driver)
Ford Galaxy (traded in for Discovery, less said about this car the better)
Saab 900 Green 5 door (gone missed)
SAAB 900 Black 3 door (gone missed)

Mines going into LR today. I have a detatchable towbar thats got movement in it. I require my Discovery to tow a large caravan and a Heavy duty plant trailer for other 4x4s and cars.... I dont fancy loosing my trailer or caravan so hopefully will be getting a replacement towbar. Will report back on results.

Off to look at a nice 09 D3
it has the towbar that detaches , I caravan about 5 times a year to the south west and east coast so completing thr journey with my van still there would be advantageous
when does the check and " free " upgrade dissappear from the dealers guys
cheers
Phil

Just bought a D3 2008. Previous owner said they never used to leave the tow hook in but the one time they left it for more than hour it got nicked and they never replaced it, just bought a horse wagon instead!.
I have booked in to Guy Salmon to have the check but I haven't got a tow hook. There's no point in buying one if the whole thing is to be replaced with a fixed tow bar.
I am not really enamoured with the idea of a fixed towbar and hoping that the car gets a clean bill of health and I can just buy a new hook.
However I have 2 questions;
1/ Will not having a tow hook be a problem when I go for the test?
2/ In the cases where cars have had the damaged cross member cut out and replaced, why do they need to have a fixed towbar fitted when surely the car should then be up to the spec of later models that don't need to be tested?
Confused? I know I am!
