If you read the instructions on fitting the multi height plate it only gets fitted if tow ball is required at a certain height,

Top tip, thanks.
Of course the towbar appeared miraculously (and without cost to myself, I might add) on the car with no paperwork or manual so I have a good reason for not having read it in this case.
As a side comment, when my D4 was about 6 months old the rear cross member had already become well rusty, to be seen around the trailer electrics. I have had the LR warranty folk look at it 3 or 4 times over the years. On one occasion they agreed it was crap and had it painted! But that's as far as it went. Now I have a nice shiney new cross member, not a sign of rust. And I had them wax-oil it after fitting to match the rest of my chassis.

After doing the inspection and the result being "it failed spectacularly", meant I had to get my MY06 D3 done under the recall notice.
I agreed with the dealer that they could pick it up Monday 7th, which they did and at the time they said they would, the took it, did the work estimated at 4 days and as promised, brought it back to me tonight.
New rear cross member, new fixed multi height towbar and new twin sockets as well as well as washed and vacuumed.
I am actually quite pleased as I do tow more than "occasionally" and with lots of different trailers anywhere from 1.2t to the full fat 3.5t so a fixed towbar to me actually makes sense.
I have to say that the dealer (Hunters Land Rover at Garstang, Preston) have been brilliant at what they have done so its a thumbs up from me for them.

Mine is booked in for two weeks time. I don't think the towbar has ever been removed, so that should be interesting.
I wonder which loan car I will get?

Letter arrived yesterday - I already have a replacement cross member and fixed towbar courtesy of the lady that didn't like the look of the rear end and decided to rearrange it for me
Might take it in though - free clean and valet appeals

Just booked mine in for its check and wash on the 23rd of October. Apparently my dealer only offers the replacement rear cross member as the standard repair. The dealer said that I could be without the Discovery for up to 2 weeks, should it fail the test.Freelander SE 2005 Auto.
D3 TDV6. Gone.
Got mine back yesterday. No fixed towbar fitted in the end. Once the new crossmember was fitted and my original detachable towbar fitted, it past the test...........??
I was impressed that they left the old dirty cross-member and a huge semi circular piece of plastic and other crap in the boot of the car, lost the cover off the passenger door handle and returned it with the rear parking sensors not working...........
Stratstones back to their normal level of service........... ------------------------------

Should every D3/4 owner expect a letter?
I've not had one yet and was starting to feel left out. Until I read recent posts saying they had just received their letters.
