Seized tow bar....
Mine has been in Hatfields - Liverpool today for the recall assessment, And as I expected they phoned to say they can't get it out!?
I Now have to wait 4 Days to hear what LR have to say?
just sat at Sturgess landrover in Leicester having the tow bar recall check done, crossmember passed but detachable tow bar failed as it doesn't lock properly as it's been messed with ? I bought it of a fellow member but it looked and seemed to work but turns out it won't lock, so not fit for purpose, they won't let me have it as it's dangerous so having the fixed Towbar fitted whilst I am here great service not sure how I feel about a fixed bar but it's my only option at the moment.

I don't know if this question has been answered, I did read all 40 pages but could have missed it.
I got my letter about the tow bar check. It mentions fitting a fixed, multi hight bar as a replacement. I don't tow very often and definitely don't want a fixed bar getting in the way all the time. If a faulty socket is found, can I insist on a replacement cross member? Or do I have to take this multi hight bar. If the latter is the case, I'm tempted not to take it in.Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

Off to get mine checked tomorrow morning.
Interested to see what happens, only owned car 2 out of its 10yrs and came with fixed tow bar. However, who knows what it's been doing before me!
I removed it and have a LR detachable one now, as like others i don't do much with it, just carrying bikes and want to be able to remove it.54 D3 TDV6 AUTO HSE - Oct13 > Present

2009: I fitted the detachable towbar to my early D4 the day I got it new, and have not removed it since. I remember mentioning to the dealer at the time that it wabbled a bit in its socket and was assured that this was normal. I have used it regularly since then for light trailers and bike rack and it does not appear to have got any more wabbly.
Flash forward to 2015: Took it in to dealer for inspection and they determined that it needed new cross member. This was fitted over 3 days this week at their tame body shop and I got the car back today with a variable height, heavy duty towbar, or "plough" fitted. For offroading I can see this being a major impediment, I guess it will just be a greater challenge of skill ....

Is there some reason why the more streamlined fixed LR towbar is not the standard replacement?

Notwithstanding the above, my complements to Pentland LR in Edinburgh for dealing with this issue in a helpful manner without event.
They provided a Discovery Sport (should be called Freelander 3. Oops!) for the duration, which had some nice tricks but I'll be sticking with the D4 thanks.

they are now giving me the new cross member with swan neck tow bar !! i must admit i hope i never have to deal with a main dealer again, for the cost of my phone calls i could have bought a new D4
I'm tempted to buy a new cross member and fit it myself. If you are having trouble in the southeast with reasonably good dealers, I can't even imagine what hassle I'll have with the stupid main dealer down here.
One thing is for sure. I won't be having an ugly fixed tow bar hung on the back of my Discovery. Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

The bottom picture is how mine looks as I asked them not to put the multi height plate on

So are you telling me they are the same thing but one has the multiheight plate and the other does not? If so I could just take that off myself. 2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)
