No ...the services action is formally suspended ...they really should be doing anything unless the dealership wants to carry the can of course

As stated in my previous post, I complained to Pete as the dealers wouldn't even look at it which is just not on. Pete sent an email and they're looking at it. They are happy to look now LR have told them to. No more to report just yet. I will as and when. Thumbs Up
A point could be made in a situation like Disco5 where so much play is evident that they have a responsibility to deal with it, sevice action or not. They have to take responsibility, especially if the car is in warranty.

I can understand that to a point FM but how do they now know what to do with it if the previous instructions were invalid Confused Have they magic'ed up some new ones of their own...or is the work completely outside of the checking issue ? Smile

Don't know DG. Awaiting an update but Pete was surprised that they refused to look at it. He said they should check it and speak to LR for direction if they weren't happy to make a call on it. Imagine there wasn't a service action at all and someone had a problem, surely they need to at least check it and ask for help as a minimum? What got my goat was the refusal of any help at all. I've been in the customer facing industries all my working days and a complaint is a cry for help. If you get a cry for help, you help. Even if it's to explain that it's not covered in the warranty and a cost may be involved. At least you explain your position rather than shrug your shoulders and turn away. I'm just surprised anyone in such a position dealing with "connected" customers at this price point can effectively flip me the finger.
I wasn't impressed with the lack of reassurance. I would have spoken to LR whilst the customer was there and explain the position to see what it is I can/can't do. Customer happy coz I'm helping not just ducking the problem. Simple stuff really. Just beyond the guy at the dealers.

This 150Kg noseweight is a bit misleading regarding failure of the Towbar.

That is recommended to have the balance right for cornering, braking etc. Try towing with a rear heavy trailer and you will see what happens.

Towing a fully loaded 3,500kg trailer will on occsaion put an awful lot more than 150Kg onto the ball, just think coming over a ramp then into a dip and up again - huge loads.

So really the Towing arrangement needs re-designed. Very useful to have a removable one but perhaps it's not quite right yet.

I keep mine well greased up but it's only occasional use with a load of junk to the tip or the rubbish bin to the top of the track. I would not tow a caravan or anything like a car on a transporter until LR get off the pot and give us the full SP.

Just my view Whistle

My 100kg noseweight and 1900kg overall weight are well within the limits set by LR and tbh the whole rig feels tight without any clonks at all. The tow bar feels ok with very little movement and I would have been happy to continue had it not been for this seed of doubt. The static weights are all that can be specified by LR as no one would have a clue what pressures are brought to bear in motion as the trailer manufacturers don't give any detail to conform to. I'm happy to continue if LR say it's ok and I'll take the tb off between tows if it makes a difference (still don't quite get that bit). We'll see when they report back.

The reason for taking the TB off is a corrosion mechanism called crevice corrosion.

That particular type take place, you guessed it, in a crevice, and, with the right conditions can be much faster than open air corrosion.

In a crevice such as the TB fitting there is moisture, oxygen and steel, the 3 things you need to get corrosion going really well.

If this is the case then it matches numerous observations on here and (as I have said repeatedly) highlights the need to service the tow bar and the socket. The both need to be clean and lightly lubricated.

I have seen some sockets and bars in a truly shocking state.

Pete came back stating one of the fundamental things with the detachable tow bar is that it should not be left in situe for prolonged periods as in order to function correctly the locking pin needs to move freely, by removing and reattaching the tow bar, this prevents any potential seizure of the locking pin mechanism.

The concerns that have arisen have revolved around customer leaving the detachable tow bar in place on a long term basis or use of this as a permanent fixture for commercial purposes.

As long as the weights are being adhered to and it has passed the tests, there should be no concerns at this time.
I'll check with the dealers to make sure they carried out the tests as specified by Pete and if so I'm happy to continue to use my tow bar. I will be removing it when not towing continuously, whereby it will be cleaned and lubricated and stowed in it's receiver in the rear NS panel.
Job hopefully is a goodun. Thumbs Up
All I really wanted when I think about it was reassurance and an understanding of what the actual problem was and how to avoid it.

May I ask where you obtained this information? I'm only asking because that wasn't the reason I was given for it being withdrawn. I was told it was issues dealers were having with bars which couldn't be removed and lost keys.
