The Discovery is the most prone to this of any car I've had,of any type.....
I put it down to the very short frontal overhang Question
Btw,I'm still not sure what the little 'fins' ahead of the front wheel arches are for.....I assumed they were to reduced splash over the bonnet to the windscreen, but having not refitted them (post-RLD sump plate) I haven't noticed any difference Confused

The fins are there to allow air flow from front, for cooling and so on,
The width of the tyres combined with the highs of the, lowest part causes the water to be allowed to go forward, then the car catches up with the wave, resulting in windscreen getting covered.

I have removed the fins on both D4's and RRS when fitting sump guard, no difference noticed at all.

Had wondered if videoed you could adapt some spray suppression flaps used on HGV's to reduce this effect

D1, D2, D3 and D4 have all done the bonnet/windscreen wash trick - they wouldn't be the same without this facility and I would miss it on any future incarnation of the Discovery!

Definitely a ' feature'..... Just been through a puddle in the new D4 and I can report that L322 wasn't as bad by some margin

Great video and nice to see the "problem" in action, even if a child was harmed in the making!

Having read this thread, I tried going through a paddle at around 60kph, but I didn't get the windscreen splashed. Will try again when I get a chance.

BTW, great video and iPhone feature there Johny...

We went puddle hopping on some Hampshire lanes today (as you do); you don't need to be going very fast to cover the front screen with water if the puddles are deep enough!

Great fun though Thumbs Up
