Temp has dropped below 0 and very bad starting in my hands now. Fear the glow plug(s) have seized, despite the low mileage. Does anyone have the parts number for the glow plugs available? Will make explaining to dealer here easier. Many thanks! D5 HSE TDV6 (gone but not forgotten)

Are these glow plugs problematic? Ive changed loads on a variety of vehicles without any issues. Is it worth periodically removing, cleaning and refitting to prevent them seizing up?

Hi
When I have refitted glow plugs I have always used copper grease to prevent further seizure, and it has worked well on 300tdi's.
Should also work with TDV6

With all respect, a 300TDi is miles and miles away in terms of development from a TDV6
They are about 3 times the size of a TDV6 plug, so it's no surprise they don't snap... My D3 Build Thread

Hi
Not quite sure if a 300 TDI is quite 3 x bigger than a TDV6 Glow plug.
I thought they were within a couple of mm the same length, approx. 126 mm,
a 300tdi takes a 10 mm socket and has a M10 X 1 thread size,
while a TDV6 is a M8 socket with a M8 x 1 thread size, so the TDV6 are a bit thinner, and probably by default more fragile.
I agree the TDV6 is more sophisticated as it has after glow capability and a much more sophisticated control system.
I am in a similar situation as some others here ie I have a "lumpy idle" on initial start up when cold, but nice and smooth when warm.
Changing all 6 plugs for new would normally be my first choice based on the age of my car (2005) and the number of start up cycles it has had but I am very wary of snapping them, hence I have not attempted to change mine yet.
I am currently relying on the FBH and Bell Autos remote to ensure a good start up
If I attempt to change them myself I will use lots of Plus Gas for several days before hand and possibly a freezing spray as well.
What do you think?
Regards
Jonathan

Not sure Plus-Gaz or freezing will address the problem. As I understand, it is not seized threads that cause the difficulty but the build up of fossilised carbon around the cylinder end - it's the stuff they make diamonds from! A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. So are there no effective additives that can be used to prevent this build up?
