Not familiar with the D4 at all, but I thought it included the infotainment system, allowing you to stream music through BT.

Well finally got time to post a progress report.
New screen went in a treat.

As you can see I kept the original RRS surround frame. It hooks on at the bottom and I secured the top to the side frame with cable ties. Felt really solid. Going nowhere.
This meant I didn't have to fiddle about cutting down the new frame and it fits exactly as the old one did. Can't get more factory fitted than that.
The hard buttons obviously don't do anything but I'm not bothered about that. I may find a use for them later. I also managed to fit the old D3 bracket to the D4 screen in such a way that allowed me to use all four original fixings so it's really solid.
A few people have said they used PC 2 pin mother board type plugs for the screen connections. I've got some somewhere but wasn't sure where. I did have some 3 pin RC servo plugs handy so I used those. They fitted nice and snug so it's another option if you have these.
Fitted the abs wire and the satnav is working great.
Updated my BT module (thanks Wiggs) so now have contacts etc on screen.
Changed several settings and updated stuff with the IID tool including reverse camera enable. Also reset the gearbox settings and it's improved the acceleration and responsiveness massively. Got rid of that dangerous lag when pulling off at junctions in busy traffic.
The reverse cam is fitted but just need to wire the last part up when I get a minute. For anyone with a RRS running the wires through the boot section on a RRS to the number plate lights is a !
Just waiting on a solution to CD on screen and the light sensor now.
Mike.

Update:
Got CD showing on the screen now but doesn't really work off the screen (as others have reported). Investigation ongoing.
Phone book/contacts list seems to be hit and miss at the moment. Sometimes available on screen, sometimes not. Always available on the autochanger display.
I have a ROW screen which doesn't have the FM socket on the back so I'm guessing TMC is not going to be an option for me? Not going to stop me trying to find a way though!
I may have a solution to get the screen dimming off the light sensor. Just need to find time to get what's in my head down on paper and start building a circuit to test my theory. I'll let you know on that one.
To be continued.......

Unfortunately in a D3 it's designed to show on the radio screen not the touch screen .. So it gets confused with were to put themG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Cheers Wiggs. I thought as much. Can't see that there will be a way around that one. D4 Bluetooth unit maybe?
Nubber:
If you change the CD Unit option in the CCF from '6-disc CD Player' to 'autochanger' it should show on screen. Like I say, not fully functional though.

MBaker - Very Nice Job. Looks professional!
I too tried the same thing with my RRS (left hand drive here in the states) but couldn't
get the D3 bezel to fit - There wasn't enough room to fit the screen into the space mounted
like this. The back of the screen would hit the air duct venting in dash.
Any other modifications to bezel or mounting bracket that you did to make this fit?
See picture:
Red arrow: how I mounted my screen when I first got it. Flush with back of screen and mounting
plate.
Blue arrow: used bent up tabs as a reference as well.
Any pictures of front for the position of screen on plate?
Too bad our RRS have the two screens for display - they are always getting confused where to
display the menus - one day it works - the next day nada...

Come on then Greg, complete the sales pitch, how much are you selling a D4 BT unit for.
rOvercharged:
Thanks for the compliment.
It took a bit of measuring to make sure I'd got the old mounting plate fixed to the D4 screen in just the right place. I basically measured from the front edge of the mounting plate to the bottom edge of the D3 screen, then made sure the D4 screen was in exactly the same place. It's a diagonal measurement and a bit tricky to hold it in place while you mark the holes.
It is tight against the air duct as you say. Just have to make sure you don't bend the MOST optic cables too much or they will be damaged.
This is probably the best pic I have of the screen position on the bracket before the trims went back on:

I think the position of the bent up tabs on the bracket are probably the best guideline to go off.
Edit: Almost forgot, there were two upturned pieces along the back edge of the mounting plate. I had to cut these off.
