Liv Vic seem to constantly change their position on mods
I've got to catch up with one of their underwriters later this week on something work related, so I'll find out what the score is. In other words, don't always rely on what you hear from the peeps on the 'phone I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've got the JE tune, very perky indeed. I love it.
I also insure with NFU, and joined them with the car already chipped. They weren't keen when I spoke to them first time round, and said that they'd be more amenable to the chipping idea if I was already a customer. Hence I did my house insurance through them for a year and then switched the car insurance over.
They have put a 15% loading on my insurance for the JE tuning, it was going to be 20% but I cited another customer who'd had a 15% loading. The 'other customer' was actually a customer of LR Insurance, but who's counting?

My main reason for a tune would be to get rid of the awful lag in 1st gear pulling away from rest, much worse in a manual than an auto, I have actually stalled it 3 times now
Still "umming and ahhing" whether to go for it, so much choice now, Torq tune, JE ..... etc. One day I will do it! 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

dont know that tune TFC, can you give us words and music, or hum it please
See issue I have (if you can call it an issue), is I think mine is bloody good as is, pretty quick on the motorway (as seen regularly on the M40), pulls tintent better than any other disco I've ever had, so spending on this would be pure self indulgence (and nothing wrong with that you all say) - I think this is part of my problem, its bloody good as is
I'll convince myself soon - promise

Hello everyone,
Does a conversion like this invalidate a LR warranty?

LR's general response is that warranty will be 'restricted' in the event of a non-approved modification causing conseqential damage - that means that the onus is on LR to prove the problem was as a result of the remap, not a 'natural' component failure...
If LR were ever to refuse a warranty claim to one of my customers I would ask for the failed components to be made available for independent testing and also ask for the component performance data for it to be tested against - at that point I fully expect LR to make a 'goodwill gesture' in favour of the customer

3 Questions...
1) I am looking into insurance Is NFU Norwich Union??
2) I am getting my TDV6 XS auto in July and changing it after 2 years. The mileage will be approx 20K in total. I know all cars return different MPG's but has anyone got any idea if the cost of the chip/map would be returned by the MPG improvement over the length of time I own the car?? i.e How many miles before the chip would pay for itself. I know a lot of the TC users on here have quoted good mpg improvements after re-mapping.
3) Can the chip / map be transfered to my new car after 2 years??
4) Is it detectable by LR or the insurance companies??
Cheers Kev

1. Dunno
2. depends how you drive it - 15 to 20 k is an average 'payback' milage with Torq-Tune
3. No, the remap stays with the vehicle you bought it for as long as you own it (in common with all other remaps i'm aware of) if you trade it in the dealer will (should) clear and re-write the ECU anyway
4. LR dealers cannot detect the remap - except by the guy that does the test drives after service or warranty work, Ins. co's cannot access vehicle data without a court order and LR Gaydon's intervention, given that the top speed is unchanged (in in the case of Torq-Tune) and BHP & lb/ft are not quoted in collision statistics then there's not much chance of it being listed as a contributory factor - driver awareness and control are generally the bits being looked at, together with external influences such as weather, road conditions and the missing brain cells from the chav that steps out in front of 2.7 tonnes of Solihull's finest
