Tailgate won't lock

Hi

2005 LR3 always had to really shut hard the top tailgate to ges it shut but today it will not shut, get tailgate open message on dash and it partly locks so it won't fly open. Anybody any ideas is it an easy fix what parts will be needed..
Any advice please

Can find lots of things about it not opening but not about not locking...!!!

Have you tried adjusting the latch?

Nope no idea how to, from the littlevive read it seems to be a part needed...unfortunately him indoors has no patience with my beloved D3 ..

If you think the electrics are doing their thing then it could just be that the hooked shaped catch in the upper door needs aligning so it mates with the lock correctly. You just loosen the 2 fasteners and move up or down by trial and error until you are happy with it. From your description that you have had to slam it shut for a while suggests that this may be all it needs to be well again.

Not much I can do about your husband though.

I have been having a problem with the top tail gate and it's only when the sun has been on the rear doors when it's cooled down it opens ok.i have adjusted the striker catch and it made no difference has any body had a problem like this before

Well I actually got him indoors to have a look and after taking the lock out ummin and arring it was a small stone that had somehow got in there and was stopping it lock and I mean small ,tiny you wouldn't have thought it would have made a difference. Laughing
Next job replacing the split passenger side seal so the carpet stops being drowned...
