It was a 9000 Aero. Remapped by Abbott Racing, but it blew the auto box, literally. The Saab main dealer didn't care that it had been "tweaked" and flew in a replacement box from Sweden. All covered by the warranty
I sold it and bought a manual 9000 Aero, that had many Abbott mods and AP Racing brakes under 18" Speedline mag/alloy rims. It had c.290 bhp, but massive mid range grunt.. Lovely car and surprised quite a few "fast" cars.
I preferred it to the newer 9-5 Aero's that I also owned. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I know three 9-5 Aero owners, they’re all still driving theirs and lamenting that it’s the end of the line - nothing will ever top their current vehicle. Saabism is kind of a religion... or a cult.

Got the same squawk happening to my Disco 3. Do you need to replace the transfer box?

I'm going to take mine in to be checked - it fortunately got a 12 month warranty with it although 12 years old. I wonder if you leave it, will it cause longer term damage?

For some closure, the torque convertor was a cheap and nasty one that had been installed as a warranty repair a few years ago.
A decent new one has fixed the issue. Nice and smooth now (Remap, EGRs Blanked,Silicon I/C hose) from BAS, (Torque Convertor, Compressor, FL Wishbones, Alternator) by WD, Belts by Newbury4x4, Megaflush+extra cooler by GRGB, Diff+Transfer oils, ARB Bushes, Fuel filter, Fixed Towbar, Remote FBH.
The 'z' is silent
