6 weeks ago Autoglass fitted my 05 with a Solarshield make. Never looked at time. Should I . This was a refit as the first one was not aligned to top of roof line properly. Best fit I have had in 5 screens since new.
Four months after I wrote the above, a chip has turned immediately into a crack. So, now on phone to Autoglass requesting a Pilkington one be fitted on the basis that this Shatterpruf made screen seems to have cracked too easily and the last one was not fitted properly and the one before that only had the heating element working on one side of screen.
If I ever come off "hold" I will update this thread
PS Listening to adverts for third time
I have had this on many occasions with pattern windscreens. I have also had pilkington triplex and saint gobin that last forever covered in battle damage and chips but never crack. I would say cheap glass is made to the bs standard but quality glass seems to far exceed it.D4

Autoglass turned up today with the Pilkington Optikool windscreen and fitted it - with new A pillar trims and new Bosch wipers. Time will tell if it is more durable than the South African Solarshield Shatterpruf.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

I'm with LV and they use autoglass and exces is £125 whereas my bmw also with LV is £75 exces so I guess they know that the disco screen is more expensive to replace hence the higher excess. I don't need a screen but if I do I'm hoping I won't get any hasstle due to the higher excess which I hope would mean fitting OEM. Sometimes I think it pays to pay a little more for insurance than go for the cheapest, I deliberately avoid the cheap insurance quotes because I could do without the hasstle if I ever need to claim. It's one of the few products that I hope not to ever have to use.2005 HSE TDV6 in Bonatti Grey

I am insured with Direct Line. The excess was £75. I have to say Autoglass were great and did not quibble when I said I wanted a Pilkington.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

I was, until recently, with LV (I only went elsewhere because they won't cover off-road use). I had two screens replaced (the second just a week after the first!). £125 excess each time and Autoglass fitted Pilkington Opticool. This was about 2 years ago but in my dealings with LV over the years they've always been good to deal with.
I've just checked my current insurance (arranged through Adrian Flux) and it says that if I use the approved installer the excess is £90 but £120 if they can't do it or if I go somewhere else. Where ever I go they will cover £1000 for the screen (minus the excess of course). I guess that means I can go to LR for a screen and they'll pay the cost less £120. I'm ok with that.
The current Pilkington screen has a couple of stone hits on it, one of which is quite big with a tiny fan shaped crack behind it. Must get it repaired at some point I suppose. The stone that hit it at motorway speeds must have been pretty big as there are three pits all within 10mm of each other, one pit has the crack behind. I wonder if a cheap import screen would still be in such good conditon...

Had quite an impact on the dual carriageway yesterday.
Im with our sponsors A1 and am insured with Highway (Part of LV)
Called the glass number and went through to Autoglass.
Very professional but cant fit me in till Tuesday but no dramas on that as im not scheduled to go anywhere as yet.
Its a heated screen (that isn't working because of all the little chips) so will see what occurs.
I advised the phone lady to tell the fitter to bring plenty of clips.
I will keep you posted.

Autoglass booked to replace my screen tomorrow. Called the local office today to check what they will be fitting. The chap who answered said that they always fit like-for-like, and although it wouldn't be LR branded, it would be Pilkington Optikool.
Fingers crossed.
I will update tomorrow. There are two rules for success,

Well very happy.
Excellent professional fitter who happens to love the LR range.
Pilking Optikool screen, new side trims, excellent.
He even tested the heated elements and confirmed all working.
Very very happy.

Has anyone had any joy making a claim for a new screen just because the existing one leaks, rather than has any damage? After months of investigation I've finally nailed down the damp in our driver footwell to a leak at the top of the passenger side of the windscreen.Cheers,
Gareth

Not Pilkington! Couldn't be bothered enough to worry about it as long as it keep the wind out of my eyes. There are two rules for success,

Screen was hit, just above the passenger swiped blade park position a couple of weeks ago, insured with Admiral, had the choice of Autoglass or Auto Windscreens, after bad experiences with Autoglass have gone with Auto Windcreens, Pilkington Screen will be fitted, they tell me that they only fit Pilkington on the Discovery. Will wait and see.
