Follow-up on my fix.

Seemed ok for a couple of weeks then the same issue came back with some extras, additional noise plus when dropping the height puts it in extended mode. Not the best when going into a carpark where you need as much head room as possible Embarassed
It would also through up the red susspension warning light telling me to go slower than 30mph.

Pulled the bottom compressor cover off and found this:

The pipe between, what looks like, the crank case on the compressor and the exhaust had split. 2" of duct tape later and it was sealed up, well tempary, so lets see how it goes. Not sure if the pipe was part of the original issue as I didn't check it when fixing the crack in the dryer housing case.

Don't know if anyone knows if this a service part I can order, or if not, what is a good substitute?

I have just purchased some 8mm and 10mm nylon tube to refurb my compressor. Bought from XBR.com. if I have some left, you are welcome to use. I also bought a couple of push-fit connectors. I think this pipe is 8mm but will check when refurb next weekend.

Many thanks for the extreamly kind offer, which I have seen often on the forum. Unfortunatly the split tube is rubber and not the nylon feeder pipes Sad

If anyone on the forum doesn't know the spec I think I might just have to pull the old one off and drive round a few car or DIY shops the see if I can get something that might fit.

I've had an interesting development with my fault, previously fixed by Disco Mikey. If I start up and drive away, after 27 seconds the fault light comes on and the "normal height" only warning message appears. However, if I lower or raise the suspension as soon as the engine is started, then set at normal height I can drive all day without the fault appearing.....

For the time being I'm dropping the car to access height whenever I park and raising when I restart the engine. As it is absolutely consistent I'm wondering if it's part of the post-start system checks, which would explain time delay?

I'm guessing that because the fault vanishes if the compressor has been used, it's not the compressor; and as Mikey fitted a new drier that's ruled out too, so does anyone have any other ideas?

Try spraying soapy water around the reservoir and the pump and dryer to show any leaks. Make sure compressor is running when testing it for leaks.

I will be putting my compressor back in tomorrow following dryer refurbishment, repaired inlet pipe, main valve overhaul, DIY rubber support grommet rebuild and new relay. Hoping for good outcome.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments. Disco Mikey was here today changing the alternator as the old one managed to fry it's internals...

As usual his ace detective skills pinpointed the problem to a leak from the compressor head, possibly due to corrosion. Ah well, looks like a new compressor....

Still, excellent service from Mike as usual Thumbs Up

Dropped the back of the compressor down and changed the split rubber pipe.

Bolted it back together and flipped the key. Compressor fired up and squrited some soapy water over it and no leaks. Compressor seemed to run for a long time which was odd.

Suspension went into off road mode quickly but when dropping down it went into extended mode again Big Cry
Turned the car off then on again but the compressor didn't come on and the suspension warning light came up again.

After a lot of turn off and on, switch pugling and driving it went back to standard mode. Odd thing that even at 40 mph it didn't drop to normal height which it normally does when I hit 30..

Getting desperate now, any suggestions as I'm at my wits end.

Shutts,

just trying to recall the things I've read on the forum about this, I'm sure there are two things that can cause it to go into extended mode when you want access mode,

1. height sensor problem.
2. exhaust valve issue.

If you want the fault codes read, I'm near Margaretting, so not to far from you.

Stu.

Many thanks for your help last night checking the fault codes, at lease I know what I need to focus on now.

Next plan of action is check the exhaust vent pipe is not trapped. Subject to that being open, check the height sensors don't have crud in them as the motor has been up in the air for 2 days when the lower arms were changed, read that in some cases muck can fall down onto the contacts. Then finally check the wiring behind the N/S/F arch.
