Can some please show me a diagram/ explain what is actually inside the NATO hitch coupling?
I know there is a spring/ damper in there but not sure exactly what is there. Are the two cylinders it's made of separate?
I found this picture of a converted hitch to a 50mm ball:
I have one of these:
I know this is not a Sankey but can the same principle be applied?
In the pic above it looks like they have mounted a 50mm ball attachment in front of the second cylinder? Does this sound possible? I am tackling this next week as the surgery is planned for Monday and am just trying to get my head round it and some final pictures drawn up of what I want

Ok so the back section is just the spring. Hmmmm will have to take it apart and investigate I think

I got the gas adapter to go with it so I can run it on gas. So has anyone got any tips for getting a good weld? I used a MIG welder back in school but not since! So if anyone has got a few handy hints please share

From my own learning and experiences a mix of the following
Clean steel, close fitting pieces no big gaps, angle the gun circa 45 degree into the weld, it should sound like bacon cooking, very little exploding and splattering, keep the wire feed in the middle of the flux pool as you move along the weld, take your time and practice on a few spare pieces in advance Altox GSM FBH controller thread

If auto on a small welder like you've bought, shade 9 or 10 will be fine, too dark and you'll make it harder to see what your welding as it's not that bright a weld compared to a bigger welder Altox GSM FBH controller thread
