The new tow hitch looks to be just what I need to tow my camper trailer. Has any one purchased one from Mithell Bros and tried it out? Is it as good as it looks? White S TDV6 auto. Air Suspension. I'm "on the list" for one of Mitchell Bros hitches. However, speaking to Aaron on Friday, they have had some "production issues" and he was no longer prepared to provide a new supply date (as others are long past).
I am still keen to get the Mitchell Bros towbar hitch (partly as it is certified in Oz), but I, obviously, can't wait for ever.
Best Wishes,
Peter
PS: Aaron also informed me that he had "just" returned to work after being off with a broken leg. No doubt, this has also affected matters.

Hi Bushwanderer /Peter. It all sounds a bit depressing. The photos I've seen on this thread look very good, but until I've heard some good reports on functionallity and quality of construction I'm not willing to cough up the cash. Reports of "production issues" don't inspire much confidence. Unfortunately, I haven't heard of any viable alternatives to date. Do you have a "Plan B"?

Like so many others I am still interested in the towing hitch as I do not think there is an alternative. With Kaymar bar fitted and LRA tank in place there is to my knowledge nothing else available, and I like the concept of the new towing hitch.
The van sits in waiting and all outings are on hold until the hitch is available. Will keep waiting in anticipation, hopefully not too long now. I am also waiting to hear when we can purchase. Did one trip with the Camp-o-matic using the standard hitch, but not off-road so it wasn't really an issue - trailer wa quite unbalanced though with it angled down quite a bit at the front. Towing ability of the Disco was amazing though, it flew up a hill that my old Pajero used to really struggle on.

Hi John58,
My 2005 D3 was supposed to have the towbar wiring loom & hitch receiver fitted from delivery. Unfortunately, mine was one that "slipped through" without it. Only yesterday, I finally had it fitted FOC. I am concerned that it is sitting too low, & have been advised that the hole for the "pin" may be too small for Oz Standards. I have yet to check these matters.
Further, the hitch receiver prevents removal of the spare wheel, until the receiver is removed (a fairly straightforward, if inconvenient, job).
Another point, I believe, is that the key to unlock the hitch receiver, for removal is quite fragile
A further point is that, now, the load capacity of the hitch & receiver is now carried on a plate on the gooseneck, rather than the hitch receiver itself & so use of alternative "goosenecks" may lead to RTA (NSW) difficulties (even if using a neck from an earlier Disco (capable of a greater towball load and towing mass).
So, to answer your question, do I have a plan B - not really.
Best Wishes,
Peter

I think Aaron is reluctant to give delivery dates because when gives one it will be ready to go.
The hitch is a good design and is engineer certificated. Aaron wants make sure it is right first time. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi everyone, this is my first post.
We (my wife and I) took delivery of our D3 TDV6 last week. Base "S" model without the air suspension and electronic wizardy ... which we could not afford . Purchased it specifically as a tow vehicle for our 2000kg caravan (its also newly purchased and a big part of the reason for the budget restrictions for the D3).
Although I had seen this forum and read some of the threads prior to purchasing the D3, I have to admit that I hadn't been aware of the potential difficulties of the LR tow hitch until AFTER the D3 was sitting in my driveway! I'm now more than a little annoyed with the dealer (Trivett) as there was no mention of the inability to use a HR weight distribution hitch ("WDH") . I also hadn't been aware that the LR hitch puts the tow ball so low (certainly too low to allow my caravan to ride level). It wasn't until I read a related thread on this subject yesterday that I realised that the LR handbook (page 202) prohibits the use of any WDH.
So, like many of you I am now also keenly awaiting the release of the Mitchell Bros unit. As a late-comer I feel I should acknowledge the great work of caverD3 for kicking this project off; and Aaron from Mitchell Bros for sticking with it. I just hope that production units are available soon.
One question, though, will I be able to use a HR WDH with the Michell Bros hitch receiver? I assume I will be able to as I won't have the issues that otherwise go with using a WDH with computer-controlled air suspension.
Apart from the LR tow hitch issues, we are really stoked with the D3 so far. We have previously had Pajeros: a 1994 3ltr petrol, which we traded in on a new 2.8ltr diesel in 1998. That was a really good car and happily towed our Track camper trailer all over the outback. But when we decided to go all luxury and trade up to a caravan, the Pajero really struggled to pull that much weight. I've always liked the look of the D3 and have been impressed with the performance figures. As soon as we took one for a test drive we were hooked. The "S" certainly doesn't have all the fruit of the "SE" ... and I really can't fathom why it doesn't have things that many basic models do, like a trip computer and mp3 compatable sound system ... but it makes the Pajero look very pedestrian by comparison.
Looking forward to chatting with the D3 community on this and other subjects.
Herbie.

Welcome Herbie and congrats on the purchase.
We look forward to seeing you yours and your van in Wilpena in late May Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.

Oh yeah!!!
I should have done so before , but I must add my appreciation to caverD3 and the Mitchell bros for developing this long awaited and much needed doover!! The amount ofwork involved with steering it through ADR requirements and certification, not to mention design, prototyping, testing, etc must have been horrendous. Can't wait for it to be available.
Cheers

Hi Aaron - sorry to hear about the broken leg.
I know you're not keen to give a completion date at the moment - but any chance of hitches being ready before Easter?
