This is the latest reply that I have received from HR re the bar. Hope it is of some help as there are many waiting on the final product.
Will
We here at Hayman Reese have developed a towbar to suit the Landrover Discovery 3 and it is designed to be used in conjunction with the factory mounting spare wheel, it is an externally mounted bar and works well with Hayman Reese WDHs. The Discovery 3 has very little room between the spare wheel and rear cross member. We are developing a concealed towbar to suit the 3 which will need to be fitted with an external wheel carrier, the departure angle will be greater and can be fitted with a long range tank. Our engineer who is heading up this project is on leave for the next few weeks and we will begin testing soon after this time. Email me you contact details and I will advise as we progress with the version 2 bar. I have attached a flyer on the first version of the bar we now have available.
regards,
Chris Scott
Commercial ManagerKaymar rear bar and tyre carrier; Safari Snorkel: ARB under-bonnet compressor; LRA fuel tank; Winch, bullbar; Cibie Super Oscars; Rhino Platform Roof Rack, Reversing camera; Traxide auxiliary battery system, 17" rims - Cooper ST.
This certainly matches what I've heard from Chris as well. The engineer I was working with has been away but is due back soon.
Any news on the Mitchell Bros version ?
Cheers

They are still keen as they recon their is a market (so do I)
Design alterations made, should look 'the mutts nuts' willl suit D3 and RRS, prototype should be done soon.
Does anyone in sydney have a Kaymar bar so we can make sure it will still work with one?
Once prototype is made we will have price and production date.
Orders should be able to be taken then.
I'll post phtos when available.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hayman Reese Tow Hitch
I have a HSE Diesel with Kaymar bar and The ARB tank fitted.
I currently tow a Off Road van weighing 3500KG.
We use the WDH with out the bars.
We eagerly await the new Hitch to make life better all round for us.

It's getting closer. Design should be nice and quiet too. Once the prototype is fully tested we should have a price and he will be able to take orders.
I wish it was ready yesterday but.....................must be done well. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Towing Hitch
Hi CaverD3 / Simon Arch et al
Just back from 6 weeks hols in Europe. Hired a motor home out of Frankfurt and drove thru Germany, France, Italy, Czek Republic and finally back to Framkfurt. Interestingly, in the 2 days we've been home I've seen more Disco's in Adelaide than I think I did in the whole time we were in Europe!
Got a call from the auto broker on the Fri we returned and the new Disco is due on Wed (the dealer has had it for a while waiting for me to return) so towing hitch is now a priority. What's the latest on progress?
I'll be taking the car in to the tyre dealer in the first couple of days to have a set of BFT AT's fitted, then need to get the tow hitch sorted.
Cheers,
Martin

Just for interest, here's a pic of my modified BRS attachment.
I've extended it upwards and cut off the bottom.
When I've got some time, I'll do it without the intermediate plate.
The guy I was working with ay HR has now left - so trying to find out what if any progress was made...
CaverD3 - any news from Mitchell Bors?
cheers,

jh972,
Your tow bar looks very good and set up for off road hihch
Have you ideas on how to incorperate a rear snatch point, mine is very usefull for towing others out and pulling me out backwards when I have headed into something beyond my level of compertance
I made mine a lot diferent, see my gallery, and it retains the rear snatch point, but I like your simple no nonsence approach. Well done
Rob

Going in tomorrow for second prototype to be fiited. They need two: one for load testing and one for destruction testing.
I should have some pics by the end of the week.
I looks the goods very little effect on departure angle and would even look good on a RRS.

Multi-Purpose Towing Hitch for D3 and RRS
Proto-type done:

The top flange could go to make it look better but the idea was to use it as a recovery point.
It utilises both the recovery eye and the LR removable hitch slot to take the load. There is a special locking bush for the recovery point so it should be quiet.
Different tongues can be fitted to suit various trailer heights.
The Disco 2 tongue gives a standard trailer height of approx 480mm

but any tongue can be fitted from really high:

or a recovery block and shackle:

There is still good clearance before the door:

They are off to be tested on Friday.
These were hand made and not finished. Final product will be laser cut and factory welded. Probably plated before powder coating.
Will be rated and engineer approved with serial numbers. Engineer is checking it complies with ADR as well.
Hence cost of production to recoup investment in approval and testing.
Cost will be between $400 and $500 depending on the quantity produced. Pre-orders with deposit will be discounted.
Plus tongue to suit (or better get your own, D2 one from wreckers)
Weight 8kg without tongue. So post to UK would be Aust Post $162.90 up to 20kg (so for two) If a group buy is done from UK could reduce cost considerably.
Any comments or thoughts?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

The prototype looks good.
I'm okay with the top flange. I regularly tow a caravan or boat and it makes for a better (easier) point for attaching the chain.
I like the way it uses the current Disco structure and doesn't require modification to the car. As I am in Qld I would need to get someone to install or do it myself. But from your description it should be simple enough for me to try.
Do you know if it will take a weight distribution hitch (HR)?
