Rear Wheel Arch Rubber Seals - Should I wash my car more oft

HI - Have generally left my Disco 3 to get mucky over the winter as we live in rural Essex and there seems little point in washing it. THis year it gets a "wash" every time we drive it, anyway.

However, I'm wondering.

Yesterday, my wife reported a problem, which turned out to be a flexible strip of U shaped rubber about 2 foot long, which cuves round the inner wheel arch as a seal of some kind. It was eay enough to push back on once I had cleaned the wheel arch of all the dried up mud and dung. BUt unfortunately half the strip is now no longer "U shaped" so won't really grip onto the arch.

Has anyone else had this? THe other side is looking damaged as well and at a guess it is because there is so muych crud on the arches that a decent spray of water has eventually got into this componenet and forced it off. Not the end of the world but it had come off far enough to trub on the wheel and cause a burning smell that my wife could smell!

Any thoughts?

Cheers

The strips are filled with aluminium strips which soak up moisture and expand over time, i think they are designed to do this, i replaced mine for £6 each side Whistle

Hi I've just upgraded my disco to a 3 and both of my wheel arch strips are shot. Just wondering were you purchased your one's from for £6, as everywhere I look it's £25 upwards per side.

I had a set last year from Dan at duckworths, think about £40 all in, 2 min job to fit, inside the rubber is aluminium which corrodes to a white powder, look much tidier when done.

Picture or part number?

I cannot figure out just what part it is that you are referring to. It does not sound like the big black plastic wheel well mouldings, but some smaller piece unique to the rear wheel wells.

If I had a part number, I could figure it out as I think I have a similar problem but never realized there was perhaps a simple fix.

As it was, a couple of weeks back I replaced both my rear wheel well mud flaps. It turned out the hidden metal attaching the flaps to the body had corroded and expanded such that there was a visible gap opening up between the body and each flap.

I thought mud was trapped in between and it was instead , the products of corrosion expanding the gap.

Now I am thinking you have the solution of the other problem I seem to be seeing but was ignoring.

Thanks for the link. I now have two on order as it appears that both the left and right sides are the same part number, CLB000010.
