AC Compressor Whine Fix

Hi all,

I've got a whine coming from the front end which I think is the A/C compressor. It disappears when I turn the AC off.

What's the fix for this, is it a whole new compressor or just a certain bearing? And how long have I got before it goes completely pear shaped (bearing in mind that the A/C is usually on most days) and if its goes will it take something else with it?

In the past i had a car with a whining AC, when diagnosed, it returns to be low of charge. After recharge, all fine, no trace of whine.

But yours could be a bearing, let it checked.

Apparently they can go on whining for quite a long time. But then again, how long is a piece of string? Whistle

It can be the pulley bearing or the compressor shaft bearing. From your symptoms it would be more likely to be the compressor shaft bearing as it is loaded more when the a/c is turned on. Pulley bearing would whine all the time regardless of a/c being on or off.

Thanks for the info guys. Will have to get a few ideas of how to repair it, as it is getting louder, or is it just a case of new compressor?

Not sure about that Marmoset Confused

Hopefully some of the more mechanical guys who've been through this chime in. I know the clutch pulley is replaceable separately but not sure about the compressor shaft bearing.

Excuse my lack of experience, but I do not understand why the pulley works always the same; when the compressor work also the pulley should be loaded more than the compressor is off, or not?
