Webasto Thermo Top V from Disco4 into Disco3 (2007) ?

Trying to source some replacement for my striking FBH. Can buy a brand new JEC000599 here on the forum - but that partno was for the earlier D3. Or I can buy a used/functioning webasto from a Disco 4 locally - haven't got the picture from the seller yet so I am not sure about the age, connectores and pipes.
So neither of them is a direct replacement - so I am not sure if there will be some software issues.

In terms of compatibility - which one should be better for my Disco? Both are Thermo Top V - but there are dozens of variations anyway.

thanks

Attached is the picture from the disco4 fbh that the seller sent me. However I do not know if it is not going to have some compatbility issues with my disco 3.

What do you think - should I rather buy this or the disco3 JEC000599 ?

I have added the other sticker picture in the first post.

Frankly, i would rather go for the brand new JEC000599 (based on microcat only suitable for the my05 cars) - if anyone can confirm that it will work with a MY07 car.

Duckworthparts has a sale - but not sure about the compatibility.

The only thing I can say is I think the 05 will work, there is a reason why Landrover changed them, and I havent figured that out yet.

Glen, thank you for the effort.

I am going to get mine tested and if it is really due for the chamber replacement then I will buy the brand new 05MY webasto.

Hello

I was also looking at the Duckworths JEC000599 on sale, but as I was not sure if it would work correctly as my current unit is the newer JEC500820. Instead I replaced the burner unit (LR010329-Glowplug) and its seal (LR004141). One strange thing was that the new burner unit had an additional connection, which I guess is for diesel pre-heating? My old burner did not have this cable, but the FBH itself had a socket for the connection, so I plugged the cable in. Anyhow now the FBH will fire up every time and without any excess smoke at startup. Maybe my burner has been replaced at some stage by the previous owner for an older model. I'm guessing that the difference between JEC000599 and JEC500820 is the diesel preheating capability, as I have heard the later model starts easier when really cold? Or could it be something with the control unit card? Can anybody confirm what is the difference?

The burner replacement work took me about 3 hours in total and wasn't too difficult, once the coolant expansion tank is loosened with the 2 screws from the bottom for better access to FBH screws.

My problems started with a non-working FBH auxiliary water pump, which made the FBH shut down due to overheating when started with the oval timer (would work fine when the car was running and coolant circulating with engine water pump). When the pump was replaced the FBH would not fire up when -7 degrees or more and always when it started there was always a lot of smoke. The old burner looked deformed inside as if overheated once removed.

As the burner unit LR010329 itself is almost the same cost as the JEC000599 I am tempted to go for the complete FBh rather than the part.

Lets see-still waiting for the K-Line OBD cable to get the webdiag diagnostic done.

A D4 FBH will not work on a D3 due to the change in CAN bus message lengths between the D3 and D4.

You could, in theory, I suppose, swap the controller from a D3 one onto a D4 one to convert it.

But I haven't tried it so don't know if it works, but as I say, in theory it should if they are both ThermoTop V FBHs.

If it is the same software in the car for both - how can the CAN message length be different?

Anyway - thanks for input guys.

I have a vague impression, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the newer D4 have a 11 bit CAN bus networks implemented. The old ones have 29 bit CAN bus networks.
If this is the case, then it won't work and they (the FBHs) aren't (at least easy) interchangeable.
