If we get to the end of this process and there is any money left over, I would suggest that it is donated to Charity, Help for Heroes springs to mind as it is generally well supported amongst the Landrover fraternity.
Or if there is another campaign as suggested that we could build up a fund for, then that also sounds good.
Personally I'm only committing to following this action through, not to be the conduit for any possible different actions on other issues in the future.
If there is anything left over, then it is going to a good cause My D3 Build Thread
Agreed, so we need to get this up to 100 sign ups - funds the project with the hope of a donation to a decent cause - the donation side of things might also encourage a discount from the analysts if they know that detail

More pics of cracked casing....
Hi all, just an update with some better pics. For those who have not followed the complete thread......
Last Saturday Flack (site sponsor and all round good guy) did the 7 year cam belt change on my 2007, pauper spec, TDV6 Disco 3. I bought it last month and it has had an easy life of trips to Asda and general pootling about. It has now done 35,000 miles and has been serviced as per the book.
All went well.... but Flack spotted a crack in the oil pump casing and I was glad we had decided to fit a replacement (new design) casing anyway. Looks like it was a very fortuitous decision as the casing was near to failure which I believe inevitably destroys the engine. Phew!
Anyway, Bodsy has kindly offered to properly investigate the casing issue and have the item analysed by the professionals hence the £10 sign up.
On closer inspection I have discovered another crack - not as bad but still an obvious weakness and I am astonished that Landrover have not admitted that this is a fault that they need to rectify and many dealerships seem to deny all knowledge of it!
I know it is a first class, ocean going pain in the butt ........... but I guess anyone with an affected vehicle should get it checked out. Also note that a visual inspection may not necessarily prove conclusive...
Finally - Landrover now manufacture a stronger replacement so surely, logic dictates that, the original design was substandard?

Agreed
So glad I decided not to take the caravan out for a trip and Flack did the job early - 7 years are not up until next month. For once I made the right decision 2007 Base D3 - Buckingham Blue

Received the pics and forwarded them on. In my commentary to Douglas, I did comment how incredibly lucky you were!

Indicative cost of a proper analysis and report is £500 +vat. Now if a business was able to swallow up this vat, that could really help. FYI I've not committed to any action yet. I'm just giving a heads up, so the £600 is very light by the time the other collation of information is accounted for.
My time is zero charge for this just in case anyone asks and I'm not linked to or being paid by anyone who I'm working with on this. Just wanted to make that bit clear before anything crops up as it's your money people.

Just had a conversation with Landrover customer support....
Oh well....
I sent a brief email to Landrover including some pics of the cracked casing with a request that they cover the cost of replacement and a bit of labour... Sue Beasley called me back soon afterwards and said that there could be no contribution to the costs due to the work being done by an independent ie not a Landrover dealership. Not sure "how the problem was found" dictates their "contribution" policy but heh ho....
She was very nice but she stated that if it had lasted for 7 years (35,000 miles) it was fit for purpose despite a revised item now being available. I soon realised that the conversation was going nowhere which really frustrated me and I got the feeling that she really was not concerned that a fundamental manufacturing flaw is causing honest hardworking customers a great deal of financial and psychological stress.
I suggested she might advise all of the dealerships to check the oil pump casing when doing a service and she said she would pass this on....
bottom line...... from the conversation I don't think she (Landrover) cares a great deal and therefore I have signed up for a further £10 in the hope that we can encourage them to care.
oh - and I shall not buy another Landrover again.... my previous D2 and this D3 have been enough for any man (or woman) to repair.
Amazing how influential a brief telephone conversation with a representative of a company can be!2007 Base D3 - Buckingham Blue

I had a Honda CRV for 7 years and got a few recalls (no jokes guys)
All done FOC irrespective of the vehicle age and headed 'Safety recall' when they arrived
A question
What actually constitutes a recall ... surely a blown engine at 70 in the outside line is dangerous
Could we go down that route (sorry if its already been thought of )D4 Front upgrade/cut back wings n things 'taking a long time but getting there'.
D4 rear upgrade - Narpys helped with that bit
Flack for problem solving and D4 Bluetooth Install/ D4 Heated Steering wheel with Flappy paddles n BBS enabling kit
Disco Mikeys work - Serviced, EGR blanking and 4x4 software upgrade, 3 flash indicators.
