2005-2006 Discovery 3 Questions
Hi all,
Sorry if these questions have been asked to death, I am new to the forum and land rovers.
I have searched but I justed wanted to check a couple of things.
Im looking into buying a 2005-2006 discovery 3 with the lower tax bracket, I have been reading up on what I need to look at, and just have a few questions.
Is it only the 2007 models that need the oil pump casing changed?
How do you tell if air or coil suspension if the add doesnt say? Is there a model that is specifically one or the other?
Im looking for a manual over auto, is there anything major to watch out for on maunals?

Have a look in the for Sale section. Pinhead has a nice 2005 S Spec manual for sale.

After reading up I decicded on the manual, it wont be used for towing.

Coils are all 5 seats IIRC. Plus they won't have the raise and lower suspension buttons.
I've no clue on the oil thingy.
However I totally support the auto route. They are just wrong with a manual IMO

In defence of manual:
I've owned my 05 S spec for 9 years and its covered 153k. It has a BAS remap, Allisport intercooler and DeCat and has just passed its MOT with flying colours Its currently on its second clutch.
Personally I like the manual and think it suits the car. All my other cars have are or have been autos, the best being my 7speed BMW 5 series.

In a D3 definitely a manual unless all your driving is in heavy traffic. The clutch seems on average to need replacing around 80 - 100k miles so see when it was done.
Yes it is 07 that seem to have the oil pump problem.
It is only base models with 5 seats that are coil, so if seven seats then it is air.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I was looking towards the 7 seaters, so air it is!
Thanks for the information on the clutch, I'm looking at ones around that mileage, so basically I need to make sure it has had a clutch and all the belts have been done, this way I will safe my self some hassle.
Also another random question. Do the the rear seats sold down flat? I know the 6th and 7th seat do, I was just wondering if the other rear ones do?
As I will also be using it for doing job, as I'm a plumbing, I have van at the moment, but also work for a company, so have a van from them as well, but as I can't use that out of work, then I will using this after I sell my van.

Yes, all the rear seats fold completely flat The photos are a continuation of the rear load area, making a very useable van-type area with forward access.

My 05 manual is on 92k on it's first clutch (and I tow with it) and I wouldn't dream of having an auto - I like driving too much

Clutches don't necessarily need changing at 80-100k; it's all down to your driving style. If you spend all your life cruising up and down the motorways, I would suggest a manual is better than an auto.
You'll know if the clutch needs changing as it will slip when you pull away. Clutch slippage will cause the XY sensor to lose calibration (usually when you hit 3rd gear). The amber (P) light on the dash will be illuminated and the gear selection (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, N, R) will not show on the display.
Having driven both, I still think my manual has a bit more poke than even a BAS remapped auto (yes, I've driven one). Maybe I should get mine remapped!
I quite like my manual D3 but my next car will be an auto.
Moo, how did your D3 get through the MoT with a DeCat pipe?
