Battery light staying on??? |
|
Hi folks
Driving home from work Thursday morning the battery light stayed on. Checked the voltages when I got up and found 12.8V engine off and 11.67V when running.
So I ordered an alternator and fitted it earlier today. Gave the battery a quick charge and its now showing 13.5V when running but the battery light is still staying on. Took it for a 30 mile run out but no joy still got the light.
Any ideas??

Where did the alternator come from? Personally only fit denso (oem) alternators from Steve at advanced factors as lots of people have had issues with units from other suppliers

twas it an OEMLR alternator or recon non OEM that might not be in good nick, mind you how long have you had the battery - you might have killed cell in the battery?
If battery over 5 years, time for a new upgraded OEMLR spec one anyway?

Alternator was a recon one from Alternator man as recommended by a chap on here.
As for the battery I've no idea how old it is. I've only had the car since July last year.
Whats the difference with the upgraded battery? 2004 Disco 3 TDV6 SE

Mine went last week had a brand new fuhrenbuhl (Andrew page own make) its throwing up all sorts of problems on start up ie radio and satnav going on and off, amber park brake light flashing and head lights flashing all settles down after about a minute, not happy I told them about it and they are going to give me a refund when I return it next week. Ordered a Denso unit from Steve at Advanced Factors should be here tuesday. Apparently Disco's don't like after market ones so get a Denso.

Had zero issues with my £165 quid recon unit from http://www.londonessexautoelectrics.co.uk got a years warranty so had it been an issue would have gone back plus supporting a english company and staff who really knew there stuff. Guy knew all about the issues with the unit and could explain everything and fitted upgraded component (think rectifier). I don't buy this only get from xyz, you could have got a bad unit from main dealer as per many of the posts.
Well I'm happy and £165 quid seems as cheap as chips!
Cheers

I'm inclined to agree with Chris. You can get a bad one from anywhere. Spending more doesnt always mean getting better quality.
I was having random error messages with the old unit fitted but those have all stopped since fitting the replacement alternator.
The unit I bought is guaranteed for 12mths and a member on here has ran one from the same company for 15000 miles without an issue.
I think it may be the battery thats to blame as it was driven for 25 miles or so with lights on after the battery light came on and was very flat. i will give it a good charge and go from there. 2004 Disco 3 TDV6 SE

if its running on the original LR battery, no point, past it
BTW have you ever experienced total loss of power when driving down the road....not nice, worth avoiding at all cost

Could some of you do me a favour and measure the voltage across your battery with both engine running and not running and let me know the results please?

New denso now fitted no more issues , full refund from Andrew Page for their own brand alternator.

Just to finish this thread off. I had a replacement sent out by the supplier, fitted that and the battery light went off and has stayed off for two weeks or so now. Producing over 14V.
Thanks for peoples input. 2004 Disco 3 TDV6 SE
