Does the EPB sense it is on an incline?
Hello
I have read the extensive information, guides & bibles on the EPB on this site.
I cant quite find reference to my situation.
My MY08 EPB initially made the scream and flashed up warnings. I did not have to manually release as it worked after turning the ignition on/off.
The park brakes were cleaned and adjusted at the next service and now the system works silently.
The system seems to work well on flat surfaces (when you don't need it) however it still jams when used on a steep incline when it is under load. Again, it works once the ignition is cycled on/off.
Wanting to know how it compensates for the additional load of hills and where this function sits i.e. in the actuator or behind the discs? Does it have some sort of inclinometer?
Trying to work out what the strategy for a fix would be. Indy mechanic is quite experienced with the system but following a proper clean of the park brake he is angling towards a replacement of the actuator system if I want this issue fixed.
To this point I have never had to use the manual release.

It does not sense the slope per se but it does adjust itself to avoid slip. The EPB does wake-up when parked to check all is well and tighten as required to compensate for cooling.
The system does apply more torque when used in low ratio, so test it when low range is selected as this mode will highlight any problems.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
