Alternator fried.
The curse of the January bills continues. It appears my alternator has finally thrown in the towel
A quick search on here and I seem to be matching enough symptoms to suggest so anyway.
Occasional suspension faults over the past month on start up that clear with a quick off/on.
Today it was special programs off.
About a quarter mile from home I started putting up both rear windows at the same time when there was a split second loss of engine power and the red battery light came on.
Anyway, the battery's now on the charger and I'll get a new alternator on order tomorrow.
Helpfully tho, I noticed the alternator "how to" while searching the problem. Sorry I didn't note who posted it but big thumbs up to you sir. Not now the mega money job I first feared Narpy Grill, tinted windows, Smooth leather wheel (TLO Group buy), ACM fitted (thanks TLO), Rear door loom and Row 2 & 3 audio switch upgrade, RRS 20" wheel change, 285 Cooper LTZ's Sat Nav Mod (until I get a Faultmate upgrade), Front & Rear lamp guards. 4x4 screen now switched on - Woody32, Follow me home reverse lights - woody32, Auto release EPB - Woody32. Off Road Navigation - Woody32. Remap + EGR's switched off. Full chassis clean and Waxoyl.

Good idea to connect the charger but disconnect the alternator lead to stop the battery potentially being killed through a blown alternator.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Robbie, I've got the battery disconnected. The battery seems fine on the conditioner so giving it a good long slow charge ready for refitting.
that's the plan.
I've had a pretty cheep year for repairs as it goes.. But I guess it is still only January
What is it they say? Making mechanics out of drivers since....Narpy Grill, tinted windows, Smooth leather wheel (TLO Group buy), ACM fitted (thanks TLO), Rear door loom and Row 2 & 3 audio switch upgrade, RRS 20" wheel change, 285 Cooper LTZ's Sat Nav Mod (until I get a Faultmate upgrade), Front & Rear lamp guards. 4x4 screen now switched on - Woody32, Follow me home reverse lights - woody32, Auto release EPB - Woody32. This seems to be seasonal thing - mine has just blown too; noticed the disco was labouring to start for the past few days and then yesterday got the red battery light on when running.
Arranged with my local indi to have it this morning and had to jump it off my missus 118 - took a few attempts, I don't think the bimmer has that much juice going spare!!
Anyway, looks like new alternator at around £200.
Hmm, mine has been replaced by the LR stealer last week. Discovery 3 HSE
