Steve Hill did say that there was a plastic collar that did all the computer jiggery pokery but it was an interference fit and not available separately.
I had no reason not to believe him and warranty direct had picked the tab up so I'm only down £50 for the excess. Plus it would of been a long drive to you Steve to come to my normal trusted garage. Thumbs Up
Didn't think that far would of been good with it on the bumpstops.

On the flip side I picked it up from the garage and drove it home. And I didn't enjoy it at all!!! Shocked Felt big and no feedback. But this is after driving a Puma 110 for the last couple of months. But while it was in the garage the Mrs went back to her Fiesta and isn't keen to go back into the D3. So thats it's fate sealed. Give it a big clean and polish and then get shot.
So it's either then invest in a new Focus for her or spend it on toys for my 110.

I don't doubt that at all, but I am still shocked.

Someone is paying and someone is being paid. I'd be over dramatic to call it fraud, but it's on the same road.

On the invoice this is the description of the job

Connected to IDS, found multiple fault codes logged in numerous ECU's. All relating to dynamic ECU. Interrogate ECU and found steering angle sensor not registering when wheels turning from side to side. Removed lower dash panel to gain access to sensor found sensor OK but steering column collet US. Fit new steering column and swap over associated parts, set up steering angle sensor. Roadtest all OK.

Column part number QMB501240

Does that make sense?

I have seen two do this now it is the part that turns the steering angle sensor it become unattached from the colum and the sensor does not know where it is. I did not replace either colum just glued the plastic piece back on .

it did catch me out first time. I changed sensor and was still the same then i had closer look and saw the plastic piece would only spin sometimes when it gripped abit on the shaft. When i spoke to someone at autologic they had come across it before on a rrs. Hope this helps Cheers Wizz

A bit late for me now Big Cry Big Cry
But WD are footing the bill. So the warranty has just paid for itself in this one job.
