Stupid question, if I do this won't I get electric shock when messing with the bare wires when twisting them together?

You need to remove the plastic trim that goes along the base of the seat.
When you’ve undone the clips underneath, move the seat all the way forward and raise it up.
I have done the splice , have 12.4v going to the RF unit in the roof and 11.4v on the blue wire but still no joy. Do I have a duff unit does anyone know please ? Both fobs don’t work and I’ve had no previous problems with them.D4 HSE

I don't have a sunroof but went wading a few times on a weekend of green laning. Then the remote stopped working though central locking ok inside car. Quick check on RRSport and I was pointed at this thread. Just got round to doing it but a seriously easy fix. Worst part is the trim.
Seat forward and up, remove the b pillar trim panel, then the trim over the sill front and rear.
Pull off trim piece front corner of seat, then unscrew side at rear, before removing side piece.
Pull off trim by bonnet release and also piece by C pillar (optional but probably easier)
Ease up the 3 white fasteners with a screwdriver then pull up the panel covering the wiring and pull back.
Do the fix
Replace in reverse.
I found that someone previously had dropped the clips for the sill trim under the wiring and just glued the trim to the panel! Clips were still there but rusty, along with a random bolt also very rusty. Its now well soldered, shrink wrapped and on top of the rest of the wiring, so hopefully the next time I go wading, it'll be OK!

6 years down the line and this thread is still golden!
I had the dreaded sunroof leak, then the car stopped locking so came across this hour later car now locks!

Ditto! No doubt this thread has saved me a small fortune.
Note that there is no need to remove A and C pillar trims in order to access the loom. (Photo shows A pillar trim still in situ).

Does anyone know if there is a similar wire along the drivers side that could need re-splicing? Mines a 2005 UK and I’ve recently had a huge leak from the drivers A pillar which is now fixed. When it was flooded my central locking keys stopped working but as it has dried out it now works intermittently.

My leak was on the driver's side. There was so much water that it worked it's way across the back of the car and into the passenger sill.
Not as much water on the passenger side but enough to cause the problem.

Ah, fair enough. I’ve had a feel around and the passenger side does feel wet aswell.

Tried but failed
Got this problem, found the splice and it looked in perfect condition. no damp or signs of damp but decided to do the fix anyway. still have the problem, is there anywhere else to look?

Place back into the loom this time on the outside and cable tie everything together again.
Took me half an hour once I had found the splice.
Central locking now works again.
Hopefully the pics I took follow on from this description and they will help someone else having what seems to be this very common fault.
