Depending upon the outside temperature (usually 5-10 degrees), mine will smoke at the first start up of the day as yours does initially. However, for some reason, when the temperature is above or below this, it doesn't do it. Mine's had the modification done, which stops it puthering smoke out when you have to accelerate hard for the first time in a while, but hasn't had any effect on the initial start up smoke. Mine's a MY 2010 without a DPF. As it has never altered over the years and doesn't use any oil, I'm not too concerned. It just likes the summer months when it's a bit warmer (don't we all?).

Hi All
Does anybody know when this problem was fixed in the factory - ie vin number of cars that shouldn't need the drain pipe?
Best Regards Ian

The issues I had with my frst one were all on a 59 plate and the mod was released then, so I am guessing it was all around that year and after that the mod was probably done at factory.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

I believe the drain modification came out in 2012 (at least that's when mine was "fixed"), so would it be fair to assume (probably not!) that cars after that had the modification fitted as standard?

LTB00358v2 issued 18th March 2011 which suggests an earlier version before this date.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Thanks guys. Have a 2012 model but with 6 speed box and mines started smoking under heavy acceleration
I just did a 4000km trip in it before was fine and inchanged to oil before - so I wondering if the make of oil has something to do with it. Was using castrol before and now Mobil I think. Will confirm.

That flowchart is really interesting but it's an OCD nightmare - It's stressing me out that the boxes and decision diamonds don't line up and are different sizes
I'm fighting the urge to recreate it in Visio D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Does anyone have the TB number for the drain pipe modification?
Also what is involved in the modification?

Just found a Russian version 4 dated may 2013 online
I was quoted 400 plus vat from the dealer to do this work.
The only parts mentioned in the TB is LR013611 that costs 40 pound.
The TB list all VIns affected and its amazes me cars into 2013 are affected.
2010-2013 VIN Range AA510178-DA676456
Would seem latest TB only adds vin range. So why did they keep fitting the kinked pipe until into 2013 I wonder
Best Regards Ian

This is a long shot but to the people with smoke on startup, is the car parked on an incline?
The reason I say this is once I noticed when I was on holiday and parked on a campsite across a slope (near side down facing and offside up facing) and noticed quite a bit of smoke on startup after being stood a few days. Not noticed again thankfully
