can I ask does this air filter effect the warranty.
so can anyone answer my question.
just don't want my question lost among all the other posts about all the other stuff.
on that point I'm new here and a Lady so I know I will be in the 1% bracket on this forum but if your taking a certain line on this posting about products and suppliers them you have a loads of post that need to be moderated as I have read the board threads snce it started every night for the past 10 nights and I've lost count the number of posts on belkin adaptors and where to buy them etc etc so don't see how the air filter thingy is any differnet. can't have one rule for one thing and not for the other. IMHO. I'll shut up now. sorry. just a observation.F&M

My own view of the forum that it is there is to weed out the wheat from the chaff by virtue of 'word of mouth' from like-minded owners with no commercial footing to be gained or lost. If this is prevented, and perhaps the 'chaff' happens to be the one who is advertising, then we might as well call it totalitarian rather than utilitarian.
If Betamax sponsored the site, would somebody be prevented from discussing the virtues of VHS?
What if VW sponsored the site....... Would we be prevented from discussing the D3
Martin, I understand exactly where you are coming from, but I hate to say that the 'not for profit' angle is loosing some lustre in my books. Remember what happened to Neil Hamilton young man..... Cash for questions and all that.....

Maybe you should talk to a Land Rover dealership to get some discounted parts on their too?
Much better idea!!! We don't mind you making money out of it as you have put the work into it.
Just don't let the site be prostituted to the highest advertising bidder.

It shouldn't... but it would be 'sensible' to keep the old one to swap over at service / warranty visit time to prevent problems

Warranty, well I suppose it could. If there was a problem with the engine then I suppose they could argue the toss, but if your gearbox were to pack up, then they could not argue that the air filter caused the failure and would have to honour the warranty.
I asked a dealer about fitting a K&N filter to my TD4, he said it was a great idea as it actually filtered out more c--p than the standard one, I also have one fitted to my van and Vauxhall are fine about it.Zermatt silver 06 reg.

cheers for the answers it just I know the problems that K&N filters caused with the X5 and the ECU's and jus thought with a D3 could be the same.
The itg filters are different to the K&N
itg are foam coated with filter oil
K&N are paper or fibre type

Has there not been some cases when some folks have applied oil to the filter that they put to much oil on
which affects how the filter works really poor infact worse than the standard filter.F&M

Not to my knowledge
The filter is cleaned with the correct cleaning fluid and then dried. Then an amount of oil is measured and applied to the filter, the amount will be advised by the filter manufacturer who ever they may be.
Myself and my 2 sons have Motox bikes we clean and oil the filters for every race with no problems. As far as I know the oil/foam type filter is used on all Motox bikes and has been for years without any problems.
I thought the cleaning cycle for the the specific filter we're talking about was about every 10,000 miles? I did mine after that and a fair bit of muck came out of it!
You have to thorougly clean it to remove all the old oil and particulates, allow it to dry, re-oil it and allow it to dry again before fitting it. I suppose you could over oil it if you were a bit 'gun-ho' with the re-oiling.
With regards to warranty... I had a problem which my dealer initially thought was due to the air-filter so they asked me to put the standard one back in, with this in the fault was traced to a faulty connection to a mass air-flow sensor. This is their (don't know about other dealers) line with any modification, if they suspect the mod is the root cause of a problem they will ask the customer to remove the mod and then continue to investigate. Only if the modification turns out to be the direct cause of the problem will any discussions of whether it's a warranty issue or not arrise. If the mod has caused the issue chances are it's not a very good mod anyway! The End

whether its 10,000 or 100,000 miles what do you mean by normal UK conditions as opposed to somewhere drier that you might visit. Similar to this
and do you know if they supply these internationally
cheers Catweasel
