Or if the distance is an issue phone them and ask if you can take it elsewhere to be diagnosed and get them to confirm they will pay for the repair. Although they are under no obligation to do that they may agree to it.
If sold with RAC Warranty then of course go to the Warranty Company first that is what its for. Trying to prove to the dealer that the fault was present may be an issue. The fact you have the law behind you does not mean much unless you are prepared to go to court if he refuses to help.
Sensible to check warranty cover first, you should have a cover note of some kind?

He gave me something all nicely wrapped up in a RAC Buysure folder. And offered me for around £400 a 12 month RAC warranty. But looking on line given the age and mileage of the car the warranty is pretty basic I think.
I emailed the error codes back to the dealer and he has told me to bring it back and he will put it right. I also have asked for proof of cam belt being done and he said that he had contacted the previous owner who 'reckons' it had been done. Anyway they are going to replace that at the same time.
And they are giving me a courtesy car as I am dropping mine off with them for a few days whilst the work gets done.
