Greetings oh God of hot mornings, Well at last after persevering with my my timer i finally got it to run.
On the initial fit all that i got was ticking at the FBH so after checking and re checking my wiring i came to the conclusion that my FBH was locked out so i tried as mentioned in all the numerous discussions on this topic, and tried to reset it by disconnecting the main power feed to the FBH, didn't work so tried all other cures mentioned on this subject, then after numerous cold dark hours and thinking of putting my timer back on EBAY i came on a brain wave, and it worked.
As i was testing my timer with bonnet open and the car was sensing this, i manually closed the bonnet catch with a screw driver, thus closing the bonnet switch and eliminating the bonnet open alert on the dash, and then go through the reset procedure again, after the brake light and radio lights had gone out prior to closing bonnet switch
1. disconnect main power plug to FBH
2. pull fuse 28 main eng compartment
3 . press start on timer
4. if the FBH does not fire pull fuse again, 10 secs put fuse back in and press start again should now fire if it does n't go through steps 2-4 until it does, worked for me .....
My er indoors is now very gratefull as she will have hot mornings in more ways than one

Has anyone found a cheaper supplier for the GSM control units? they are £139 delivered on ebay, surely they must be available cheaper than that?
Looking at adding this modification before I go to Austria next year!

Yeh I have seen those, but I am drawn towards the GSM ones so I can ring it to get it to heat - useful for if I've been out in the woods with the dog or if I'm about to finish shooting etc etc 2014 D4 XS

I guess there isnt anything stopping you just adding a switch to manually turn the FBH on, so nip out, turn it on, have breakfast, the head out - anybody done this?

I think if you "wake" the car up by unlocking it then the timer won't be able to start?
sure I read this somewhere!2014 D4 XS

The signal to start heating is not simply 12v but a W-BUS command sequence, secondly if the car has just been unlocked it wouldn't work even if you could generate it. The very ingenious stapldm sussed this out and devised a way to use a Webasto 1533 timer to produce the W-BUS command and an rf remote to press its "heat now" button without having to unlock the car.
All this of course is contained in the earlier posts in this thread so RTFT.Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

Does anyone know where to find the 1533 these days? Would Webasto still produce it? Can an alternative be used from their current range if not?
I bought one on ebay a few days ago. Seller sarkblue, £60. There have been others in the last couple of months.Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

jdhx - you are right, I didnt fully understand the issue, even after reading the original posts, which is why I asked the question, but please dont tell me to RTFT, as if I took that approach to all the stupid questions I've provided answers for, quite a few folks would still be stuck.
I hope you practice what you preach

FBH & Cabin Fans
Only just joined so hope this works!
Firstly thanks to stabldm for the FBH remote instructions, excellent and easy to understand. Has anyone progressed this further by modifying the cabin fans to come once the FBH has been started from timer or remote?
I have just completed my Webasto remote control project based on the excellent instructions by stapldm.
I used a two channel remote from Maplin to give an on button and an off button plus a sounder to indicate that the unit had reacted to the command and an led (currently poking through the radiator grill) to show that the FBH is on or about to start. I did not want to have the timer inside the car so the whole thing is built into a box installed under the bonnet.
The wiring diagram is here and a wiring description and parts list here. In my case there is only one wire soldered into the Webasto (the lower one) as the upper one is at earth potential anyway.
I will put all this in the wiki in due course.
Thanks again to stapldm for finishing what LR started!Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

Many have tried, including LR themselves, Webasto and distinguished members of this forum.
None have succeeded.
The problem resides with the integrated nature of the climate control system. It is controlled by the vehicle's CANbus so you need to be able to change the software code driving everything. LR gave up in 2005 or thereabouts.

Read on here that prior to switching off engine, if you max the fan, set to max temp, select fan blowing to upper cabin (screen), choose a long heating time, some warmth will enter the cabin, probably by convection.
I must try this. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song
