D4 Fairy Lights as DRLs - With Pictures
I fancy using my LED fairy lights akin to DRLs, so thinking about the functionality I want to achieve so I no longer have to turn the switch by hand.
I would like the rear LEDs to come on too (ruling out the diode/splice mod) plus:
- The LEDs to come on with the ignition switched on or
- The LEDs to come on with the engine running or
- LEDs to come on with the unlock command and off when locked or when the vehicle is asleep
Whilst a little non-standard I think I want the 3rd option but I would appreciate the thoughts of others.

Interesting, I would prefer option 2 and agree with rears on too, pity they aren't brighter.Displaced Yorkshireman.

Personally if it was my car it would be option 2.

Option 3 would be handy in a busy dark car park

Robbie,
you could meet option 2 with a CCF update IIRC:
Not sure of the exact ccf key to update but:
Scandinavian settings means on all the time
Canadian on only when you put the car into gear.

Does the D4 have a "Chinese" socket at the front of the radiator same as the D3 that you can in to?- I have connected mine into this, they come on with ignition and go off about 20 seconds after, could save a lot of work It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Interesting replies as I thought the idea of illuminating the rears would not be to the taste of many, so that is encouraging.
I still like the idea of approaching the vehicle, clicking the remote and having the LEDs come on at the same time as the interior lights - feels kind of welcoming and the LEDs don't draw much power.
M3DPO - you mean the Japanese connector or pollution sensor. Probably not my favourite place to hack into, but it remains an option.
If I went the diode route I would mod the headlight interior, engine running would be the BJB, ignition switched would be at the CJB and (whilst I have yet to work it out) the CJB would probably be the best place for a combined approach/ignition/lock or sleep mode modification.

If you want the rears on as well you just need one less diode per side from my mod to achieve your first two options. Although I never posted, it does light the rears if you miss out the diode in the wire you cut to the headlight, I tried it when I was messing around with the mod.

My DS had the rears on along with the front DRLs, apparently it wasn't supposed to.
I don't see much point in illuminating the front and not the rear, just my opinion. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Ok, I went with the All On from Unlock command and All Off on Lock or Sleep Mode (whatever comes first) via a battery saver relay.
So far I am pretty happy with it but I will live with it for a while and if I don't like it I will change it for something else!
All a bit of a rush though as I only had 15 minutes to spare before the rugby and missed the first 2 mins. Italian defence looks reasonably tidy today.
