Sinci1 despite all thats written here ..I do have a heart and I would be the first to sign a petition to get LR to do more about this for you.
tbh I'm surprised it caused such a stir, never really expected it to ! And thank you, may just take you up on that. Now go do Christmas........I intend to.

RIGHT.....
I'm still smarting from loosing a substantial amount of money on my D4 following a snapped crank shaft and LR not giving a meaning I had to sell it as a knackered unit to Kris who is ebulding it.
I would like anyon ho has suffered from any TDV6 engin failure to consider this thread,
And decide whether their engine failure constituted a safety issue, if enough people report the issue it may make the DVSA pay more attention. When mine failed @ 60mph whilst leaving the motorway leaving my wife stranded on a very busy slip road I thought that was a safety issue so I reported it via their easy to complete form, unfortunately when I contacted them a few weeks later I was told that they do not investigate they leave that up to Land Rover and if they decide it's an issue then they will act. I feel if more people were reporting this then the DVSA would be asking more questions.
Merry Christmas

So I picked my discovery up tonight complete with new engine with an 80% contribution from LR. I am lucky that I am only a couple of thousand down and consider I got a get out of jail card (I realise others have been less fortunate). My question is now am I entitled to have the old engine. The garage has told me it's been sent to LR and if I want it I have to pay the surcharge. Anyone know w what this surcharge is ?

Good result. Re engine, doubt it. And why? Good coffee table or to see what's failed? Is it worth the stress?

It's not your engine anymore. Your engine is the one under the bonnet.

Worth letting everyone know how you managed to get such a large contribution. The process you took etc
Good result for you

I sent the main dealer a formal letter stating my rights under the sale of good's act and advised I would take further action if they did not oblige. The dealer then did the negotiations with LR and it was pretty much out of my hands. All in all it took 10 weeks which it quite a long time without a car but we got there. I have to say trying to deal direfly with LR customer relations was like wading through treacle so was very grateful the dealer handled that part

I've been watching the various threads regarding this and I'm really pleased you got a positive outcome albeit not a 100% contribution but better than first thought.

Thank you and yes we were lucky that the dealer took our case on as LR were not interested. I guess this is where buying from a main dealer is an advantage
