^^^^
I watched that video last night, absolutely disgusting tactics by the insurance companies highlighted by the different times through the night when he got a quote.

They literally just make it up as they go along !!!

Plus 1 as was also shocked by that , wasn’t pocket change either as in some £600 more expensive

See he needs 100,000 signatures to get it to gov , currently at 12,000

Hope it’s ok to post the link here plse

I'm not in the least bit surprised at the findings in the video. Though I don't think I've noticed the policy price varying by time of day it definitely varies in relation to the requested start date - requesting for tomorrow vs. 7+ days later I've seen probably a +20% variation. That's clearly opportunistic pricing, but for sure hopefully my risk of having an accident over the next 12 months is not any greater for buying insurance at short notice.
Also, for a while we've berated the Insurance companies, but are the Hire Car companies worse? On another thread I recall the case where repairs were ~£6k and the courtesty car £20k - how can that be justified?

an example on the youtube video was the insurance company using a claims management company (as many do now), that company being Enterprise (a division of the car rental company of the same name Whistle ). The car owner didnt need a courtesy car as they were a 2 car household and could cope. When he called Enterprise to chase up the repairs to his car he was told they were waiting for a suitable hire car to come available from ...you guessed it.... Enterprise rent-a-car !!

the whole cycle is one big scam of highway robbery... from the insurance companies, to the recovery companies, claims management companies, car hire companies and the repair companies, so its not just one type of business, its anyone involved in the process from start to finish.

Message from JLR CEO

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

We go to extraordinary lengths to create vehicles that are safe and secure. That’s our commitment to you.

We are conscious that recent times have been challenging for many of our clients as we have been operating against a backdrop of organised car crime, rising insurance costs and parts shortages, so I wanted to write to you and outline the actions we are taking as we look to improve your ownership experience.

Investing to protect your vehicle

Whether you have been impacted directly, know someone who has, or have read about it in the media, the UK has been the subject of increased vehicle thefts and like many other brands, our vehicles have been targeted. So, we acted.

In the last year, we’ve invested over £30 million in enhancements and initiatives to tackle the issue. Our latest security software is proving robust against existing theft methods and Police National Computer data shows that since January 2022, 0.3% new Range Rover and new Range Rover Sports have been stolen, while only 0.3% of new Defenders have been affected in the four years since its launch in February 2020.

So far, we have updated tens of thousands of older cars with the latest security software, but in case you have not had an opportunity to do so, please contact your nearest authorised retailer and they will advise you of the security actions available to you for your car.

We have more people than ever before on hand to assist you. Visit our 'Contact Us' page to find out how. Further details about security protection can also be found on our website here.

Investing to tackle vehicle crime

It’s vital to stay ahead of the criminals, which is why our experts monitor new theft threats and act swiftly to help keep your vehicle secure.

So, in addition to £15 million invested in the latest security software for older vehicles, we have committed £1 million to directly tackle the source of the issue. We’ve been working closely with police forces across the country, using the intelligence our security experts have gathered to help train 650 officers on the identified theft methods.

Investing for insurance availability

One of the direct impacts of car crime we all feel – whether you drive a JLR vehicle or any other brand – is the increased cost of insurance.

Finding a competitive insurance quote has been challenging for some, so we’re supporting here too.

Last October we launched our own insurance product* with the goal of increasing availability of insurance and reducing the price of premiums for our clients. We continue to explore more ways to improve both the cost and availability of insurance including working closely with more than 30 leading insurers to share in real-time the level of security on JLR vehicles. This will eventually help insurers calculate more accurate premiums.

Finally, if your car has needed repair, I want to say sorry for the time it has taken us to get your car back to you. In the last year, we began consolidating our parts and supply operation in a new global logistics hub and the transition has not gone as well as we would have liked, leading to parts shortages for our retailers and longer wait times for repairs for you.

We have put every effort into resolving the issues and I am pleased to report that the logistics hub is now delivering consistently in line with our original plan. Affected clients will start to feel an improvement in service as parts begin to flow through freely to our retailers and outstanding repairs are cleared.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you have any questions about this letter, our support team will be happy to help you further. Find out how on our 'Contact Us' page.

My commitment to you is that we will spare no effort in working constantly to make your relationship and customer experience with us as smooth as possible.

Yours faithfully,
Adrian Mardell
Chief Executive Officer, JLR

Just did a JLR quote, £50 per month on a rolling basis with a compulsory £600 excess.

No thanks!

There a lot of cheaper insurance prices coming in, BUT the compulsory excess is £5,000. Shocked

You might as well have third party only and be done with it. Banging Head

well ... here's an odd one.

since all things are online these days, I manage my FiL's car insurance and started getting the "your renewal is due shortly" emails but none of them included a price. it was a bit before the "21 days" norm of doing the gocompare etc. games but I did it to see if, being 93, he has fallen off the end of the system and can't get cover - but several firms came back with prices, albeit for £1600+, which is up from £1100 last year.

I looked on his current company's site and no indication he wouldn't be covered, but still no price.

Had a feeling this would end up being a phone-call job so given my current severe deafness, I added SWMBO as a designated contact.

Checked again this morning and, whilst there is still no renewal price, his insurance has been extended by almost a month and with a start date of when I added SWMBO to the details.

As I have a new Certificate of Insurance, I see no reason to prod the bear and get a less beneficial outcome but I'm now wondering if - by repeatedly looking for the renewal price then making a non-cost change to the policy - I've caused their system to recognise they are at fault for not providing a renewal price and they've extended the policy to allow the "minimum 21 days notice" process to work ?

Confused (.com)

Well, I'm just off the 'phone from the insurers...

Renewal quote was £721, which was about £200 more than last year. But I had to declare that my wife had an accident in her car earlier in the year. New quote £1,349.

Telling them that I had removed the spacers (which were previously listed as a modification) reduced it by £21 to £1,328.

Suggesting I might take my wife off the insurance gives a quote of £786 ...£65 more than the original quote for us both! Apparently including a spouse gives the algorithm a sense of stability and reduces my risk! Rolling Eyes

That's true. A couple of years ago I added my partner as a named driver to the policy for my other car (not the D3). She never drives it, but having her named on the policy reduced the premium by a fair bit. Crazy.

Now renewed it for less than the original quote by moving it over to NFU Mutual who have my house insurance policy.
