Van insurance

My last van I had was a 2020 LWB Citroen Dispatch and insurance was not an unreasonable £340’ish given it was with 0 NCB (as I used my NCB on my convertible car), I can now only assume it was some sort of ‘new customer’ introduction price……

Got rid of that earlier this year but have now found myself about to come into possession of a van once again. This time it’s a smaller 2022 Peugeot Partner both with same engines and no change to address, use, etc.

However, I did have a no fault accident earlier this year when some idiot ran into rear of me, all sorted out and all monies recovered from third party so I had to declare that. Didn’t seem to be an option on the comparison site to state it was found not to be my fault, just recorded on the details as a ‘settled accident’ Confused

Pressed the button and with 1 years NCB was expecting it come in around same price as last time but it was £685 and with windscreen cover £725 Shocked That is without any other ‘extras’ like legal cover, hire car, etc.

I was not expecting that!

The ongoing saga on my van insurance......Grrrrr.

Just wasted THREE hours of my life on the phone talking to insurance companies.

Took out a policy, all OK with it, via comparison website. All straightforward I thought......

Policy documents turn up and I check them. The year of my vehicle is incorrect. They have 2018 and its actually 2022. I went to online portal and got a real agent on chat.

He said I must have made an error and was pushing me to agree this. I said I hadn't, I said I had my details screen for the quote in front of me (I take screen grabs exactly for this reason). Reason pushing me was they wanted me to pay £49.99 for a 'policy change'. I pointed out the policy hadn't even started and I was just following their process in letting them know the documents sent had an error on it.

They insisted I was at fault, they said the charge was the insurers not theirs and I had to pay.

I said they could cancel the policy if they wanted to but I expected a full refund. Back and forth this went until they rang me and we did it all again. I said I had screen grabs I could share but whatever outcome they proposed I wasn't going ahead with cover and I wasn't paying any charges for anything.

Thirty minutes later and they finally admit the error was on their system and they could see that I had inputted correct details but it changed when their portal picked up teh comparator details sent over. I took their apology and a full refund as not sure I wanted to deal with them again if, lo and behold, I needed to claim.

Went to my second choice quote (a bigger 'name' company) and did all the confirmations on line. Went to pay and they said needed to ring as they had to 'check something'. I rang, spent ages listening to crap, answering lots of questions already answered and on the 'quote reference' they had in front of them. To get cut off. This happened three times.

On final call did it all again then had to keep stopping them from trying to upsell me cover and optional extra's I didn't need (I had taken all the things I needed and was just trying to pay I told them many, many, times....).

Even before they would confirm I was covered they tried to sell me 'associated products'. FFS Evil or Very Mad

Just before the call ended they asked, almost incredulously, why I didn't want to have them 'save' me money (by giving them money upfront to have my house insurance, other cars, etc. 'covered in advance' for when current policy ended). I did point out that during their chatter before I managed to shut them each time they were talking about saving me about twenty quid on my new policy I was trying to pay for if I gave them details of every vehicle in my household, other family members harvested details and 'just ran through' a home insurance quote. My time is more valuable than that...

I hate this garbage every year on anything it seems

I also had issues , albeit more minor ones, when the details of my license and previous claims were different on the insurer website to those that I had input. My price rise by a small amount as a result (RAC).
I sent details to Confused.com who said it must be the insurer. I told them I didn't know who was at fault, but was in their interest to investigate as I wouldn't be using their comparison site again, and would advise friends and family to avoid too
I'd be interested to know if the comparison site and or insurer were the same for you. Using comparison sites are supposed to make it easier but end up being a bit of a liability.
Hope you got it sorted.

We had this too, it seems to be the interface between what details (often quite generic ) the comparison site needs and what then goes through to the actual insurance company, albeit details like year of manufacture shouldn’t get changed.

Yes, from what I've seen, the comparison site asks all the questions and gives a quote, you then get moved over to finish the deal with the company itself and all the stuff that needs declaring has dropped out. You add these back in and you are now magically way above that original quote! Dirty tricks in the Insurance industry? Surely not?
