Auto or Manual?....should I avoid an 07 model year?

Am looking at buying another Disco 3 and need to decide on auto or manual, any thoughts?.....I see lots of stories of bad clutches expiring at low miles and thats a pricey thing to fix, however are the auto/torque converters a bit iffy too in the long run?........secondly is there something fundamentaly flawed with the 07 model year vehicles?, again i'm reading horror stories about engines and weirdly when i'm watching prices of vehicles the 07 vehicles seem to be a bit lower than an 06!!

Auto all the way. Manual gearbox is too "clunky" for a comfortable, refined D3 Thumbs Up

Nothing to stop you buying an 07MY, but as a priority, have the cambelt and oil pump replaced Thumbs Up

No idea what your budget is, but I opted for an older (55 plate) HSE auto. I need to tax it soon and £280 is a lot less than £400 odd. Mine has only done 65k and is pretty mint.

I think the car is way too heavy for a manual box and the auto is so much more refined. I think less of the earlier cars have had issues from the cam belt problems. Others with a lot more knowledge than I will be able to confirm this.

They also say -

The average cost of repairing an auto gearbox is £1,070.49, while manuals cost, on average, £824.28.

I'd happily pay £1070.49 for a new D3 auto box.... Very Happy

Only ever seen 1 6 speed ZF box completely fail in a Land Rover.
Not bad considering its the same box between D3, RRS + FFRR Thumbs Up

I have a manual and sometimes think auto would be nice, but on my trip around west coast of Scotland of over 1500 miles she averaged 34mpg would not have got that out of an auto Thumbs Up

The 05/06 Tax argument is funny when you think the difference is not much more than 1 tank of fuel ??? Shocked

With an auto box you ride the vehicle, with a manual you drive the vehicle.
