lack of drive

Hi everyone,
wonder if you can help me?

My vehicle has been driving fine, went to Essex and back on Saturday, drove around yesterday. Then, got into my disco this morning, drove off as normal, but then lost drive, like a clutch slipping!!!! I stopped the vehicle tried to pull off and more of the same. If I put the vehicle into reverse, it wont go anywhere!!!!

Service history shows a torque converter fitted 25,000 miles ago, before I owned it. Recently had the gearbox removed to have that pipe around the back of the engine replaced.

Thats about as much info as I can give. Hope someone can help?? Big Cry

Check to see if there is any oil in the gearbox, also try it in command shift to see if that works and indicates on the dash what gear you have selected.

Flack Thumbs Up

There is lots of info on the subject of changing the oil in an auto box. Many including Ashcroft transmissions say changing the oil can dislodge crud in the box causing early failure. Confused

LR say change it at 150,000 miles. My experience with ZF boxes is not a good one. On my third LR with the ZF box and two of those cars needed a replacement box. The third one seems to be messing about now. Cleaned and loosened the lever which was seized but not sure that has cured the slipping. Rolling Eyes

I feel your pain Big Cry

would think the high weather temps will being adding to the gearbox failures, as they run hot at the best of times, I had one go in my first range rover and the one in my Supercharger rangey was definitely on its way out.

hence I drive a manual version, no more nasty gearbox, pipes, cooler and torque convertor bills + fitting and the blessed OIL!!! Yawn
