Oil pump casing

I know of at least one MY08 where the oil pump casing let go at 60K Shocked

I agree with Bodsy; and am planning to have the job done before winter.

I’m fairly careful with maintenance, and already do an intermediate oil & filter change at 6k mile intervals.

Assuming I do the belts and oil pump soon I would in addition to all belts (front & rear) replace both idler pulleys, tensioners & all bolts (of course !)

When replacing the oil pump I would fit all new bolts.

Is there any other preventive maintenance I should do at the same time; I’ve been considering replacing the water pump & flushing and replacing the coolant.

My only hesitation is that there have been oil pump failures after belt changes; I’m assuming that this is due to reusing old bolts or incorrect torque settings - your thoughts please?

my 07 has a 7a chassi number but has only done thirty three thousand i asume its not worth worrying about mine until next april when the big service is due. From the way you guys are talking i should get the pump changed then.

My belt service due the end of next year but was wondering is it worth the extra expense for the oil pump to be done ? I have a warranty so should it fail after the belts have been done then I should be able to claim anyway ?

i spoke to customer services when I got the car last year to see what the official view is and was told there is no official fix, if it goes bang we will deal with it then.
i don't know about you but I would prefer not have it go in the first place.

Personally I think this is more a coincidence rather than a fault caused by wrong bolt or over tightening. Disco Mikey said he has fitted numerous 07my belt kits and has yet to see one with a failed oil pump casing. Ok some people have seen them go after a belt change, some at 1000 miles after some 10,000 after so I doubt there is any relation

I replaced my water pump at the same time. Coolant was Changed as well because I wanted to and was pretty straight forward. Also flushed the rad before putting it all back together and refilling.

Of course had it all new again 1,000 miles later Laughing Laughing Laughing

But I didn't change the oil pump casing as we weren't as aware of it actually being so revised at that point. So if you get that changed, then I wouldn't be worried.

Would it be fair to say that the original oil pump casing was strong enough, and then the intervening ones were not as strong (cheaper/cost down ??) until the latest version which has been strengthened and hopefully is now OK.

My 07 was due its timing belt change due to mileage, and through this site I found out about the the failures and redesigned oil pump casing.

I was unable to get a clear position from LR if the casing had a 'known' fault' however, long story short, I thought it may interest you to know that LR paid a good will payment and covered the cost of the latest casing and fitting by the main dealer when I had the timing belts done.
