My display sometimes says 86 MPG and my range 999.
And on other occasions it reads 7 mpg. I don't put much faith in the
car's MPG/Range display to be honest.
Question is, whether DaveT's MPG/Tank range is based on what the
computer said on a full tank, or what he calculated himself
brim to brim. Not so much about the odometer itself.
One advantage is that his car is a manual, thus more economical
as we all know in comparison to an automatic.
Both our calculations are correct on limited information.
Dave will have the answers I sure

Yes my mpg display can be all over it just depends how I drive from the reset
But I find that if I reset the mpg the trip also resets if I do this before driving away from the pump and note how much goes in when I fill back up to the point where I can see fuel in the pipe and then work out mpg manually the computer is always optimistic but not by much 1 or 2 mpg now others have noticed a much larger discrepancy
But this thread is about miles on a tank not combined range or best mpg
We all have the same size tank it's just how far we go before we dare not drive further and fill up
I have had close to what Dave t has had from his tank from my manual d3 and I believe I could have cracked the 600 mile mark if swmbo had not done 3 trips to work and back on that tank she usually struggles to get 24 mpg on her commute
Now it's dropping colder I think I will have to wait till next year to have another go at it unless this tsl stuff is as good as everyone who has used it claims so far
Not put it in yet but it has arrived Club original turbo

Mikey, lets say I'm yet to be convinced
I have more issues about the magic powers of 2t than other additives.
To shed some light on the miraculous mpg I get out of mine, first some data:
for the first 68824 miles, it consumed 11011.42 litres of fuel which is 28.43mpg
I can't remember which fill up followed the 596 miles, but the most I've ever got into it is 83.72ltrs so assuming this was the fill-up following the 596, then thats 32.39mpg. Not really all that earth shattering.
It's a manual, which definitely helps, but, it runs on AT's. (GG AT2's at that time). It's certainly not lightweight - It has sump guard & fixed towbar fitted, and carries about 50kg of toolkit, recovery gear, compressor etc. and frequently roof bars, sometimes expo rack! note that the 'total' figure includes significant amounts of fully laden expo travel + laning
Main reason it's economical is down to the journeys I do. About 3 trips per week of 95 miles each way up & down the A30 from Cornwall to Exeter. This is a relatively empty road, so it just sits there on cruise. Usually 70mph, but for economy, stay just below. 68 is much better on fuel than 70, and if the road is empty so that you're not in the way of other traffic, 65mph is much better again
It's now done 107k miles, and I still have records of all fuel costs / litres. Too scared to update the spreadsheet though!
So.... what will additives do for me?
- and more importantly, how many mpg will I get out of a D4??
ps... one other random statistic, in 107k miles, other than routine servicing & warranty work in first 3 years, the only non scheduled costs have been £68. Cheap motoring Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!

What TSL could do for you, DaveT, is possibly improve that MPG of yours
even further. There have been quite a few reviews now by people who've put TSL
in their cars, and their average figure is about a 2 MPG improvement.
This is not just from Discovery 3's but also Discovery 4's, Freelanders, Range Rovers
and other vehicles.
Also they state that their engines are quieter, smoother, less noise from the tappets
on cold starts, better pickup, better starting and performance.
Especially now we're going into the colder weather, people with TSL in their cars
will start noticing how their cold morning starts will not be as rough as they were
before during last winter. TSL works itself all around the engine, and stays in places where
the engine oil itself drains away from when the car is standing still.
Because the engine oil is in the sump, it doesn't get to the top of the engine straight away.
And because it'll be colder than during the summer, it'll take even longer to work its way round
the engine and start lubricating everything. TSL however is already in place the moment
the key is turned to start the engine. Its coating protecting the internal parts and reducing
the damage that could occur when the cold engine is started.
That is also why people report on their rattles and clatter being less or fully gone.
This is due to TSL being in the place where it is needed rather than engine oil alone lying
in the sump waiting to warm up and try and find its way to the upper parts of the engine.
The one thing that will convince you is trying it yourself.
I'm pretty sure that at least 75% of the people who've bought TSL
and tried it at first were skeptical too. But they've read what others had to say
and decided that they'd try it themselves.
And their experiences with TSL are written on this forum for all to read.
I've combined them, without editing, in the 1st post of the TSL Group Buy.
So, what will additives do for you? One way to find out

304.8 miles so far, 245 range left and now at 25.7mpg.
I really am hoping to crack 500 miles to a tank of mixed driving with this, i've heard the early one's are a bit heavy on fuel compared to later ones. In loving memory of FA54WSK.
Rest well old friend, your work is done.

You can add TSL anytime, but ideally it would be most economical straight after an oil change.
TSL will work just as well on new and old engine oil, so if you just changed it and are not due
another oil change until next year sometime then you may as well add it now.
If you're doing an oil change in the next few weeks or something then do it after that.

460 is the max range for mine driving like miss daisy. If I'm driving it harder or only around town, then 330-350.
Its an auto, remapped and using 2so right now. Best actual mpg (brim to brim, not the stupid trip comp) is 28.7mpg. trip comp mpg always shows between 3 and 4mpg above actual.

Just been on a weekends diving trip to Eyemouth (should have been Cornwall but thats another story), the car had three big blokes in it and the boot was full to the roof with heavy dive kit. On the way up it was all A1 cruising at 80mph. On the way down we did the coastal road down to Newcastle, nice and steady 60mph followed by remaining miles on the A1 at 70-90mph.
Managed 493 before I filled up again and the computer said I had 22 miles left.....needless to say I was quite happy with the results!
