I was told a few weeks back in the alps that snow socks are *not* recognised...wonder where you have your information from? Got a formal link somewhere (preferably in French that I can print out and put in the car)? Autosocks rock, so much easier to put on and take off than chains, and easily enough to get out of most situations...

As they are now selling them in the supermarkets in the alps I would have thought they were legal
I am well aware of the capabilities of a 2.7 tonne Disco , if driven with due care and at appropriate speeds for the conditions there is not normally a problem
Cars rarely crash on there own apart from mechanical failure it is usually the person behind the wheel that causes the accident ( or the numpty in the the car coming towards you )
