Same here. I've had a few D1's. This thing is like comparing the starship enterprise to a mini metro. Thumbs Up

Hi Discomadness,
Providing the sensor is ok I don't think play on the green coupling is a problem.
It is not a tight fit in the sensor. In your photo you can see the white dogs on the sensor coupling with the lugs on the green bit and the gap between them. It can move side to side a bit but not radially ie turn. I suppose this is to allow for float in the UJ.
That's why I decided to stick my grey foam rubber pads between the plastic lugs and UJ.
The rubber is very springy with fine bubbles but creeps. If you leave a weight on t it will deform.
I cut them to size for the gap but my thinking is if I have pushed is out of line, one pad thicker than the other, one will compress, the other stretch and centre it if there is and force on it.
They are also very strong in shear so should work well.
One thing is certain all these fixes from fag packet and tape to pads and glue are better than the LR idea of a couple of grand for a new steering column.

Cheers

Bob

Cheers Bob,

My thoughts exactly. I can't imagine anything worse than having to pay a shed load of money to JLR for a replacement column when it can be repaired cheaply and easily. Thumbs Up
