to progress with this topic, i spoke with a local gearbox-expert.
he offered me to do the conversion to metal pan if i like 56 01
but he asked me to check the part numbers, because he has
hot the time to check just for fun.
(i know him very well and agreed in checking the zf-numbers)
i figured out that the ZF-part numbers should be the following:
gasket: 231 25 01
steel pan: 231 56 01
filter: 231 27 02
screws: 231 37 01 (21 needed)
could any one confirm those numbers, please?
also i spoke to him with regards to how to change the oil.
he said that he could offer me a gearbox-flushing for 300.- euro
as a fix price, including the oil.
the gearbox has a contend of almost 10 liters of oil and you will
get out by draining something of 5 to 6 lites.
the rest of the oil will stay in the gearbox.
is this a reasonable offer?
the plan is to get the parts, change the pan and flush the
gearbox (130000 km without any service), servicing in
the future by myself just changing filter and oil.
btw: he told me that 6HP fluid from ravenol has the same
specs. than the more expensive ZF oil.

changed to metal pan filter around 6 months ago, good news is that all yer have to buy in the future is the paper filter at around £25.
have got a forum discount is yer mention disco3.co.uk
ps you'll see they have sister dealerships around Europe
BTW only think to remember is the gearbox temp has to be right which can only be done using diagnostic kit so would be main dealer or someone with the right kit
if yer scroll down the page towards the bottom, metal pan filter and also a service kit complete with oil, bolts etc.

Thanks, nice to know that others have done this with success
I have the HawkEye and are able to read to trans temperature there. How did you check fluid level? The "traditional" way through the filler hole in the trans housing?

Pardon me for asking, but has anyone thought of cutting the intergrated filter out of the old plastic pan, and reusing the pan with a new and changeable filter?
I assume that if there's enough clearance for the new filter, and that the filter is held in place by the "tube" going into the gearbox, this can be done?
I wouldn't want to shell out another 200 quid on the car if it is not necessary, and basically the plastic pan should be better than the steel one in terms of corrosion and possible dents..
