Right then.....
I'm not doing this mod for one good reason.
I don't need it because just had my £12 eblag reverse cam enabled in rrmode
And needed a software update a same time
All works sooooooooooo well and the brightness is set to just over halfway and its spot on.
(Previous setting was for contrast not brightness before update.
So my car doesn't need a switch of diode as I'm leaving it in rrmode for good now......

Slightly confused of Sussex
Please can you explain how a software update to the navigation screen can make the car drive better
If the software update was for the engine or transmission (which could improve the drive) how on earth can that have any effect on the screen brightness

Bodsy !!! Help!
Ian updated the screen software yes, but he also got rid of some error codes of which I don't know what they are yet.
In the sun the screen is still a bit dim but will see how it goes before if attempt the screen fix.
But permagrin is upon my chops

I didnt reset the gearbox or do anything other than enable a few bits and update the software. It's possible that a combination of the full hard reset and the software update made all the ECU's reset somehow..... no other explanation other than RCD had been awake too make hours so perhaps the caffeine has given extra neural sensors Bodsys Brake Bible

It will be just about ok in day light but as soon as you put your lights on the screen will be to dark.. without the mod..

I just pulled the pin to enable RRS mode on my USA spec 2006 HSE V8.
Works good. The screen brightness seems OK for now, not too sunny today. For me having access to the radio screens is nice. However, I seem to have lost the Terrain Responce and diff lock icons on the 4x4 info screen. Anybody else noticed this? I have the 2011/2012 NAV disc installed - if you think that matters.

Yes. Multiple times. I even tried again the next morning after the systems went to sleep.
This is the pin I pulled:
And this is the 4x4 info screen I got:
Terrain is on "mud and ruts". You can see the HDC icon works, and the steering and suspension graphics work. The air-suspension bar at the top also works fine. The Terrain Response and diff-lock icons are missing.
Is it possible I need to clear codes that might be there from when the screen was "missing" from the BUS?2006 LR3 V8 HSE

Spot on matey, I've just done the brightness fix
I didn't use a switch as I can't see why I would want to revert back to disco mode now
(Especially now the cam is enabled)

Anyone fancy doing the brightness fix for me? Cutting the wire was brave in my book.. Wiring diagrams are double Dutch and Soldering is waaaaaaay beyond my abilities Narpy Grill, tinted windows, Smooth leather wheel (TLO Group buy), ACM fitted (thanks TLO), Rear door loom and Row 2 & 3 audio switch upgrade, RRS 20" wheel change, 285 Cooper LTZ's Sat Nav Mod (until I get a Faultmate upgrade), Front & Rear lamp guards. 4x4 screen now switched on - Woody32, Follow me home reverse lights - woody32, Auto release EPB - Woody32. Off Road Navigation - Woody32. Remap + EGR's switched off. Full chassis clean and Waxoyl.

this mod, changes the illumination brightness only?
When powered on, can we use a switch to change between bright and dark without power off the ignitiion?*
Was thinking using a small relay that turns up the brightness at daytime using powerfeed from lightswitch "auto illumination"cable to dashboard.... - My 2006 D3 HSE PP

Fix was easy and I don't see the need to turn it down when lights are on, as it isn't stupidly bright it's just right
And you can still use the brightness setting to adjust to your optimal setting.
